  1. Here's a new development. Last night my son was able to uninstall the Norton antivirus from his computer. At first by going through the uninstall selection on the Norton program. It said it was successfully uninstalled but when he kept having problems he looked in control panel and add/remove programs and found two more things from the antivirus (I remember one was the live update). Anyway he removed those and was able to get online to check email and surf. But now today, he can only get online and check the email - he can't go to any websites. Forgive me but I don't know exactly what is happening but I believe he gets the 'website not available' screen. Any thoughts? Thanks, Carol
  2. I'm sorry I forgot to mention. Yes, both our computers were working perfectly before installing the Norton antivirus. In fact, we've both been using them for several months without any antivirus installed. I know, I know, bad idea. Anyway, there was nothing at all wrong with the computer before the installation of Norton. Carol
  3. Thanks for replying. We're both using dial-up connection. And I've tried disabling the auto-protect until I get online and it does no good. Carol
  4. Hi, My son's place of employment bought a bunch of Net Vista (IBM) computers. They had extra (these computers were originally supposed to go to some other company who backed out) ones so my son and I each bought one. They are running Windows 2000 Pro and hardly anything else was on them. We both installed Norton Antivirus 2003 and both have the same problem. It takes forever to connect to the internet (if we ever get on without giving up first) and then sometimes while we're on we get disconnected for no apparent reason. I'm wondering if these computers may have been configured somehow to be networked or something and that's causing the problem with Norton???? Hey, I'm a novice and I'm just fishing for answers. At first I thought it was the Windows 2000 Pro but my Mom's computer has Windows 2000 Pro and she runs Norton Antivirus 2003 without a problem. Sorry for the length of this but I'm trying to explain. Can someone please help me because this is driving me crazy. BTW, I communicated with a tech from Symantec and he couldn't figure it out. He told me to disable Auto Protect until I get online and then to enable it!!! (That still didn't work.) Thanks in advance for any help. Carol
