  1. Quote: Personally? I think it may be OS level stuff & a matter of turning off a service possibly, but which one?? I'll keep you posted. Whatever it turns out to be, it's guaranteed to reveal accumulated and concatenated computer and software design problems, and the inability of beta-testers to keep up. I'll try turning off services one by one and see what happens. Best wishes Rick
  2. Quote: For instance, in my motherboard's BIOS (Abit VP6 Via based SMP board), there is options to turn off this stuff in it... @ BIOS level. Hi. What should I be looking for in the BIOS settings? I have a Mainboard K7S5A. A few minutes ago, my machine shut down automatically and then rebooted without any keystokes from me. On reboot I checked the Event Viewer and it said "Minidump - Save Dump - System rebooted for bug check." Interesting. BTW, all this hassle began when I installed the latest XP service pack. Never had any problems like this before. Which would tally with your guesses about it being OS related. Best wishes, Rick
  3. Quote: * At the very least, it seems like a GOOD/DECENT guess on my part @ least! A very good guess, I'd say. I can't see anything useful or obvious in my BIOS settings. I'm going to contact AMD. They must surely have discovered it themselves and found a fixaround. Cheers Rick
  4. Quote: Well, you're ALL AMD users, see my first post above... it just seems to make ALOT of sense! Well, I have the same problem, with an occasional recurring series of four "machine reg" messages in the Event Viewer. And guess what, I have an AMD processor too. XP freezes up - mouse and keyboard - and the only way out is the power switch. I'm going to take your advice and have a long hard look at the BIOS settings. What you say makes good sense. Cheers, Rick
