    Win Explorer Preview Won't Work

I got Power Toys 'resize' and used it on my XP SP2 system for a while, it worked well. But now it doesn't work. I've uninstalled it and reinstalled it and can't get it to work. Looking around I found mention that it won't work unless the 'preview' feature of windows explorer works - and instructions for making it work by inputting a command line at a command line prompt. I checked 'preview' and sure enough it wasn't working. So then I did the command line thing to make it work and - it still didn't/doesn't work. The menu choice is there: 'preview' for .jpg files. But not for .avi files. The menu choice 'resize' is no longer there since my second (or third) uninstall of power toys resize. I'll go reinstall 'resize' (I downloaded it again today to make sure I had the latest version) and I'll come back and post the news if it works after that. But I don't hold out much hope. If you don't hear from me I'm still in need of help. regards, ab
  2. We've got a tiny lan of win98 machines with one win2k machine acting as server. This machine suddenly goes down, switches itself off, after work after staying up fine all day. then if someone comes in and restarts it it'll only stay up for maybe an hour. I'd think there must be some problem with the power but the lan manager reckons no and it's true that when you restart the machine it comes up without any of that 'must scan the disk' business that you get when a machine goes down because of a power out. Any suggestions at all will be carefully listened to... regards... abrogard
  3. If it is a 2000pro doing the job of server then there's no changing the limit? If it is 2K server he can change the limit somehow? Pay more money to Bill or select a different approach? I'd like to find the place on the computer where I can show him this. He doesn't trust my dos 'net config' command, I think.
  4. I am a client on a small win2000 lan here in china and net config server reports maximum logged on users as 10. When I showed this to the (chinese) lan manager he was very surprised and wants to know why and wants to change it - he will shortly need more users. I don't really know but I think it is his user license with his copy of Win2000 server, is it? How can I show him this (if that's what it is) on his machine, which is in Chinese ? What must he do to increase the number? regards, abrogard

    Lost DNS server

Hi... I've a client machine on a small win2000 Lan here in China. The lan keeps on losing the internet but I discover that a programme busy downloading is still downloading - and a web page I have I can still refresh. But no new web pages can be found. Ping reports 'unknown name' on a name ping and times out on an IP number ping. The internet is effectively not there, but it is there. So I surmise the DNS server has gone down. That server is outside our lan I suppose. My question is: how can I check that this is really the problem. What might cause it. What can we here in the lan do about it - i.e. can we have our own dns server or something... or restart theirs? regards abrogard
  6. I'm looking for the win2000 eval version upgrade which used to exist at win2000\downloads\evalupg\default.asp if anyone has it or can direct me to it. regards, abrogard jepboro@yahoo.com
