we get past this whole magnetic media thingy
yay solid state hard drives!
-
for multi computers dont forward just allow those ports
i have the same router, they might even have a preset that u just have to turn on. i would have to check when i get home

IQ
in Slack Space
i was part of a national long term iq study.
had an iq test at a labratory twice a year between 5 years old and 18.
those lab tests took hours and are nothing like the tests most people see and associate with iq tests.
take the online ones with a grain of salt.

apk... it's not a smart firewall or application sensitive.
it doesnt have a gooey interface. it reminds me of the firebax we have at work. every little tiny thing still needs to be set.
thats why i use my routers firewall
-
use what your used to
the firewall in xp is fully programable in both directions, it's a giant pain to configure and it's a pain to turn off and on.
there isnt an advantage between firewalls. my xp firewalls are all off and i use the router

mine works fine
did u uninstal and reinstal the stoodio drivers?

i was using win 98 for gaming at home and a buddy of mine told me nt4 is just a better all around os. i thought he was full of it but i figured i'd give it a try for kicks. (he was right)
anyway he sent me this link so i could see compatibility reports on hardware/software before i bought it. i poked around this site for years before i registered.
i cant be sure but i think i registered to answer a forum question on how to reset the bios on an older motherboard... u know one without a reset jumper.

now installed, clean, on 8 machines at work, this machine (beta build) and my wifes old laptop.
ZERO problems
it's slightly less fat than sp1 (as far as rescoures) so it runs better on the old p3 600 x 256 laptop than sp1. it's got better driver support for the old stuff and as far as the engineering stations it runs faster than sp1 on long crunching cycles. java seems to interface better so less hangups with vm and java fighting things out.
the old problem with properly dealing with scsi drives seems to have been fixed and thru put has jumped even on this older u160.
norton corp av hasnt shown any of the temperament that i saw with sp1 either, and im not seeing the goofy little problems i was having with my wireless network here at home.
all in all it's not a bad service pack when installed clean. ms did a bangup job

i been reading these forums forever, even before w2k came out.
puroozing this place has made me a master at special unattended installs. it has also allowed me to take over all "it" chores at this company in my spare time. (im really a process engineer) i tell everyone who is even interested in computers to come to this site and read thru the forums.
there are other help forums but many are populated by children who know more about flaming than computers... i guess im too old for that nonsense anymore.

how could anyone get in an argument here?
or worse yet get insulted?
-
easy
see above, make a new integrated install cd (slipstream)
search for the ultimate slipstream guide on these forums and reinstall.
installed it on our newest dual xeon engineering workstation yesterday. 17 min from c partition format to first system boot.
it's got a quadro pro graphics card and the nvidia drivers really agree with sp2.
-
i put xp sp2 on my wifes lappy, which is a p3 600 /w 256meg
it runs merrily along
-
could ie be looking for a proxy?
in the ie lan settings tab
u could click the detect settings tab so it will resetup the connections.
-
i have never had anything but bad luck installing a service pack over an existing installation. so as a rule i never do.
i've done a clean slipstreamed install of sp2 beta or final and absolutely not 1 problem. even the old p3 600 laptop is flawless
-
lol
no worries... clutch is da man
installed a slipstreamed sp2 on all the dual xeon engineering workstations (4).
calc's actually come out faster by 30 or 40 seconds per 5 min.
and we all love the popup blocker

may i also suggest wincdman
http://berns.cae.wisc.edu/pages/wincdman.asp
easy to use tool that makes for very easy customizing of installs
-
i installed a clean slipstreamed and it works wonderfully.
not sure i would even mess with an "upgrade"

SPAM
in Slack Space
we were getting 1200/day
then we put a watchguard firewall in with spamscreen
then i denied all of yahoo.com which was almost 1000.
and spamscreen fixed most of the rest
pure crazyness
-
there are many things that will cause that error
among them being a vid card that is unsupported.
-
thats definitely a driver/card problem
what graphics card do ya have
