    Its not exactly flickering

Try turning the latest patch: http://download.microsoft.com/download/midtownmad2/Patch/1.01/W9X2K/EN-US/mm2pat.EXE Switching the pedestrians would also work for Midtown Madness I, but I haven't tried with MM2.

    Win XP to 2000 downgrade

I was told that the upgrade from Win2k Pro to WinXP Pro could not be undone just like in Win9x. I did the upgrade myself and confirmed this issue. As a result, to downgrade Windows with NTFS partitions, you have to let the Win2k setup format the partition where Windows is installed in order not to leave any superfluous files on the partition (you may instead use Partition Magic or another utility to set up the partitions).

    New CPU = random lockups

I suppose you have already upgraded your motherboard's BIOS to the latest version (do it if you haven't done it yet). Try doing a clean Windows XP install to see if the problems aren't related to any "remnants" of the old CPU. Or you could also try to change the FSB to 100MHz just to see if the 133MHz FSB is the source of the problem.

    IE explorer 6

Just open "Internet Properties", go to the "Content" tab, then click "AutoComplete" and you will have the options "Clear Forms" and "Clear Passwords".

    Optical mouse light stays on

Is your mouse wireless (i.e., works on batteries)? If it isn't, you may try turning off the computer's power supply from the switch in the back of the case. It worked on a QDI motherboard I had.

    Nvidia 40.72 & Games

Yep... Although performance has noticeably increased in some games (NFS: HP2 for example), it seems these drivers (40.72 WHQL) have compatibility issues. When trying to play "The Fellowship Of The Ring", the graphics were all jerky and all textures were flashing (hope it's not a faulty GeForce3!), but with the 30.87 drivers I had no problem at all.

    AvP2 flickers like mad

Try the latest WHQL drivers version 30.82. The newer Detonator 40 drivers are still in beta stage, thus some bugs are to be expected.
  9. I am having problems accessing "www.google.com" using IE 6 SP1 under WinXP PRo. I get some weird dutch website named "De Standart Online". Last week, for instance, I was getting a different site. Is this related to the recent hacker attacks, or is this some marketing strategy related to MSN 8? Will Mozilla work?

    Nvidia tweaking program of choice?

Rivatuner is a good choice for tweaking/overclocking. Another good tool available is Powerstrip.

Enabling DMA 100 under Windows 2000

If you have a UDMA-100 compatible motherboard/controller and an appropriate 80-pin IDE cable (older 40-pin cable won't do), then there should be no hardware restrictions. Now, if your Windows 2000 version is prior to Service Pack 2, then you'll have to download that service pack or, alternatively, the following hotfix: http://download.microsoft.com/download/w..._SP2_x86_en.EXE which corrects that specific issue.
  12. I have this doubt: will the Athlon XP Thoroughbred @ 1800 MHz work in this particular motherboard? Sandra 2002 reports that this board should theoretically be compatible with 1.8 GHz processors. The board revision number is 1.05 (compatible with Athlon XP) and the BIOS version is 1009.
  13. You are right. In my current configuration, for instance, I have to manually select the fsb and multiplier. My only guidance was the information printed on the top of the cpu (Athlon TB 1200 model C). I guess it isn't locked, because I have once selected 1333 MHz (10*133), and in another occasion I tried 1200 (12*100) with no problems.
  14. Are you saying that the mobo auto-detects the CPU Frequency and Multiplier? That would make things a lot easier.
  15. I learned in www.asuscom.de that A7V133-C boards rev 1.05. are compatible with Thoroughbred processors, freq. range 1700+ to 2200+. Now the question is: how to select the 13,5x FSB multiplication (only have 12x, 12.5x and 14x in BIOS settings)?
  16. Maybe I should buy a new keyboard Seriously, I suspect it is a problem related with cookies. I deleted them through Internet Options in Control Panel, and now the I get the "real" Google web page when I type the corresponding URL.

    win2k jumps!

Try a different Windows version (Me/XP). Or install a service pack (SP2/SP3) for Windows 2000, if you haven't done it yet. If everything else fails (latest VIA 4-in-1 drivers, latest ATi drivers...), then just check the www.tweak3d.net article about AGP Aperture Size. It may help (or not). I used to have a Radeon 7000 and it kept frameskipping when I was playing Unreal Tornament, Nascar 2002 or Serious Sam 2. But never had any trouble playing DVD's, though.

    Faulty SB Live! (CT4830) ?

I have a SB Live! model CT4830 and a FPS1600 speaker set. I have trouble getting sound from the second channel (rear speakers) in some applications/games under Windows XP Pro, such as Freedom Force or Winamp. I have tried the updated Microsoft default drivers and the latest Creative WinXP drivers, but neither solved the problem. The Creative CD provided with the card does the trick, but makes the system unstable (WinXP incompatibility, I guess). However, I have no problems at all under Windows 2000 Pro, using the Creative CD. Does anyone have a similar problem? Is there a way to workaround this?

    Faulty SB Live! (CT4830) ?

I tried that over and over, but everytime i restarted, the selection would be 2 speakers... But fortunately this was over after i installed the new unified drivers (leaked) for SB Live and SB Audigy. And everything seems to work fine now.
