Radeon 9700 Pro and LCD monitors

Using a 19" Sony GDM-F400 monitor & R9700pro, I could enjoy refresh rates as high as 120Hz. Yes, performance could be enhanced some by backing up RR to 75Hz, with a hit in IQ, e.g.. Using the 191T Samsung LCD, DVI native @60Hz, the IQ is better than ANY resolution/RR combination on the Sony. Performance is excellent, as Total Pixel Response Time is <25ms. The Sony GDM-F400 is (& has been) a great monitor combined with a good video card (e.g.R9700pro, GF4, Matrox anything), HOWEVER, I'll probably never use it again, after using the Samsung LCD. No more CRTs for me. Gaming performance is great & everyday work use is fantastic. Graphics haven't ever looked this good on the Sony, using any configuration/tweaks. The best answer to your question also depends on the actual monitors you're trying to compare.

Radeon 9700 Pro and LCD monitors

You cannot compare CRT refresh rates with LCD refresh rates in general...different monitor technologies. With an LCD, throw refresh rates, as we know them associated with CRT technonlogy, out the window. A quality LCD, running at 60Hz, will have excellent performance if the TOTAL Pixel Response Time is less than 30ms. "Pixel response rate:Measured in milliseconds or microseconds, this is the time it takes for a pixel to respond to voltage (to be turned "on") and then return back to its normal state. The shorter the pixel response rate, the more quickly the panel will be able to display and refresh images." (credit: Myles White, Understanding Flat Panel Technology) With the radeon 9700pro, use DVI input from the LCD monitor. An LCD's optimal performance happens at the manufacturer "recommended frequency," as already stated by jimf43. Example, I'm running R9700pro, DVI, @ recommended native 60Hz, Samsung 191T. It will actually allow (spec 60-85Hz) setting as high as 85Hz, but native 60Hz works best.

    "new" Diskeeper build 7.403.2 ?

Thanks for the reply, after all this time, someone cares. Actually, Diskeeper now has build version available on support site, 4.0.410.0, the latest. It works well, running WinXPpro, scsi system, 4hdds, no problems. Appreciate the feedback.

    old refresh rate problem again...

Tired of the Refresh Rate Merry-Go-Round? Check out: RefreshLock http://www.pagehosting.co.uk/rl/home.html Upon finding this jewel, I won't be returning to those old solutions.

    Detonator 28.80 / WINXP Screensaver

Does that problem happen with the 28.90 drivers? Does it happen with the 28.32 WHQL drivers, just released today (4/23/02) ?

    60Hz with 27.42

Nvidia 26.53 drivers can be found here among other places: http://www.n3dt.com/drivers/main.html#NVXP http://www.mediaxplosion.gamigo.de/downloads/treiber/nvidia/nvidia-s1.htm
  8. Does this tweak really make a difference? After performing the tweak previously, I couldn't find a way to objectively test it. What is a good 'before'...'after' test to check this out? It didn't seem to make a difference before. (sys:ADSL avg 1050 connection, Linksys network) Now, after doing a new clean install of XPpro, here is the opportunity to test. I've read from other sources, that this tweak doesn't really work.

    60Hz with 27.42

Just to clarify, here is the author's site for the Refresh Rate Fix: http://www.planetquake.com/ztn/nvreffix/ The current ver 2.1 build 169 doesn't work for the 27.xx drivers, but he's working on a new one. BTW, I'm sticking with the 26.53 drivers, for GF3T5, until better Nvidia drivers are released. On my sys(AbitTH7II,P4,GF3T5,rdram), the 26.53 outperformed all other Nvidia versions, including 27.42 & the refresh rate fix build 169 works, no inf swapping.

WinXP CDRW Software - Thoughts/Recommendations needed

    1. Forget ANY version of EZCD, patched or unpatched. Been there, done that...nothing but problems with W98, W2K & XP! Have you ever looked at the Roxio patchwork of fixes for various versions, on their support website? Yes, I tried all the install tricks & patches, custom installing leaving out DirectCD, etc., but problems remained. For me, ezcd5plat was wasted money! Some XP issues are still NOT ACTUALLY RESOLVED by Roxio yet! I too was once seduced by the elegant GUI, but this software is seriously flawed. 2. Stay away from EZCD & DirectCD period. Roxio doesn't care about fixing their products correctly. Avoid the hassle! (On the positive side, Roxio tech support is good, but they're limited to offering FIXES that don't really work.) 3. NERO (v.5572) is what I use now, running WinXPpro. No problems. All software CDR tasks you need can be accomplished. Everything works like a charm.
