NT4.0 Domain Controller and Win 2000?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Our company is running NT 4.0 as Domain Controller and I'm running Windows 2000 Pro on my desktop. If I let my PC to join the Domain, I can't control my PC (insufficient rights). However, I've added myself in the Administrators group in the Domain. If I log in locally to Win 2000, I can do whatever I want.

What should I do to make it so that I can log in to the domain and yet have all the controls of my local Win 2000 PC. Thanks

Hiya,

What you need to do is add your network identification to the local 'Administrator' group.

Go Control Panel>Users & P***words

Click the Advanced tab and then the Advanced button situated about half way down the screen.

From the right hand pane double-click 'Groups' and then 'Administrators'

Click 'Add' and change the 'Look In' from your local PC to the Domain.

Now find your network username in the list and add this to the local Administrator group.

Can't remember if you need to re-boot or just simply log-off and log back on.

Either way once your back into Windows you'll find you now have local administrator rights and whatever rights you always did have on the Domain.
