Unix Envairment / Samba

Hi!

Did anybody knows why I can't connect to a samba server with

windows 2000?

I know that win98 had this problem but it was fixed for in the technet

site.

there is no fix for w2k.

can anybody help me?

You need to enable encrypted passwords in samba, then it should work, at least here it does.

 

For me, the other direction is not working (accessing a 2000 share from samba). Still haven't found anything to solve that.

Can't I Disable encrypted passwords in win2k insted of the samba server?

because I have a lot of nt4 wks in my org that still use samba srv.

Should work too, if you know the registry path...

 

But why didn't you use encrypted passwords from the beginning on?

Registry Key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkStation\Param

eters

and go to Value Name: EnablePlainTextPassword

change it to 1, boot the system and that's it

it's working like a chaem

But what is easier - changing the registry on _all_ workstations or just making _one_ samba-server use encrypted passwords?
