Everquest & W2k!

Recommended Posts

Hello all!

I was at EB and saw Everquest marked down to $20 bucks so I figured I'd finally check it out. I noticed that it's on the list here as working. But thats FAR from the case for me.

The game installs fine and the patch is all done (what is the optional patch for BTW?)Whenever I go to run the game I get a hard lockup and a black screen with windows timer (busy) in the middle, I have to power down to get back up running. I have tried the newest drivers and the last reference driver and it still does it, I have scoured pretty much every little tidbit on here and the everquest board for help. My system is posted below.

Abit BP6 mobo

Dual Celeron 466 (retail and not OC)

192 megs pc100

Guillemot Xentor32 TNT2 ultra (3.78 driver)

Maxtor 30gig 7200 U66 (on HPT66)

Quantum 13gig 7200 U66 (on HPT66)

Creative 48x cd-rom

SB Live X-Gamer (lastest driver)

Intel Pro 100+ (lastest driver)

3Com Etherlink III

I'm running W2kpro with the lastest updates etc .. and my system tray includes the following:

Norton Antivirus 2000

Wingate 3.05

Powerstrip 2.65.02 (underclocking the engine clock to 160.4, memory is at 183)

ICQ beta 3.19

Volume Icon

I ran dxdiag and tested all the directx modes and they run fine, so I'm about to chuck this game out the window. Thanks

I had the same problem with same Nivia TNT2 (diamond, though). Download the Detonator 5.14 drivers from reactorcritical.com.

Everquest runs great and no freezes in either the game or win2k desktop.

Props out for the 5.14 driver call. I at least got Everquest to load and signed up to play. I found that I had to do some digging and delete every file related to nvidia in my windows inf and system32 directories. I got the card to come up as vga adapter then applied the 5.14 driver and it's working so far. The problem I have now is whenever I try to change the resolution from 640*480, I got dumped to the desktop. I'll research info on this now, but at least it's not a hard lockup.

Thanks
