Quake3 arena smp under w2k

Recommended Posts

I can't get quake3 arena to work under w2k with smp enablet. I have a 2Xp3-650 and THT2 ultra.

It works just fine with smp=0

I experience a lot of random lockup. Eg: while railing someone, it just suddenly hang the system and continuos railing sound goes on and on and on when I set /r_smp 1.

It does run and noticable improvement over /r_smp 0 mode. But it is just not stable enough for me to play.

I rather sacrify the performance in exchange of stability.

I suspect the sound driver (SBLive **** release) is the culprit under SMP on my system, because I get the exact same result as you do.

actually i had the same problem you did... everyone said roll back to the 3.66 drivers for your tnt and that would fix it... but it didn't... what did fix it though is these new beta 5.13 drivers... pick those up and install them (at your own risk of course) and give em' a whirl.

I have been running 3.81 in r_smp 1 without any lockups for about a week now, since i've just got the motherboard and cpu:s. But they are the only drivers succesfully running r_smp 1.

System: BP6, celeron 533@567, GeForce DDR.

Hi everybody!

I have always had random lock-ups with r_smp 1, whatever the video drivers.

I have tried everything but changing the sound card.

Cholera what drivers do you use with your AWE32?

I have one laying around and maybe I should give it a try smile

I started out with a 3dfx 3000 and never did get the thing to work using r_smp 1. The only thing it did for me was lock up the system.

I replaced the 3dfx with a CL Annihilator Pro and can now run in smp mode. What I have not seen is any big inprovment in FPS. We are talking less than .5% gain. With the latest drivers I am at about 60 FPS with most options cranked up.

Yea, I've got the same Voodoo3 hex as you...as soon as you enable r_smp and restart the game...POOF all gone.

Pretty well known problem, and attributed to the v3 drivers not addressing SMP.

Has anyone been in contact with s3 about this? I emailed them some time ago, and of course, got no response.

I can tell you that on 2/22 a 3dfx tech post a message saying he was trying to find out when smp would be included in their drivers. A month later and 567 replies to the orginal message I still do not see anything about smp support being a reality.
