Quake 1

Recommended Posts

When I try to run winquake or glquake it says it's not a valid win32 application.

Dos quake doesn't work either.

Quakeworld do work. Both software and GL.

But I want regular quake! Winquake or GLquake!

Anyone knows whats wrong?

I have the same problem.. Only I get an error and a message saying that it's currently writing a log-file... I tried lots of stuff but nothing worked... So... I would like to know too, if Quake runs in Win2k at all!!

Hi there!

My Quake1 (GLQUAKE.EXE) runs fine on Win2k RC3, and has been running fine on RC1 and RC2, too!

A very common problem not only with Win2k but also with Win9x and WinNT4 (often when having replaced the graphics card, either FROM a VoodooX or TO a VoodooX) is: You may not have the correct OPENGL32.DLL file in your Quake directory.

If you have a Voodoo1/2 (and maybe 3, but as I don't have a V3, I can't tell for sure), you need to have a so-called mini-GL driver in the form of the above DLL file.

For most of the other cards (including TNT and TNT2), you should have *no* OPENGL32.DLL *at all* in your Quake dir so Quake uses the OpenGL ICD (Installable Client Driver) driver installed in your OS, that is, for these cards you shouldn't need anything special except a working display driver for your OS.

If you have a TNT/TNT2 and you have a OPENGL32.DLL in your Quake dir, try renaming the file to OPENGL32.DLL.OLD or something and run Quake again.

I hope this helps.

nova.

Never had the GL problem...

It doesn't mean anything if W2K RC2 Doesn't think glquake or winquake is win32 applications. So.. it's NOT about GL.. winquake doesn't work either..

W2K just says it's not a valid WIN32 application.

Well.. wtf should I do about it?

Since quakeworld does work (GL too) it seems that there is something special about glquake and winquake... but what?

PLEASE HELP ME!

I still want to play around with Q1 sometimes.
