news 28 Posted June 19, 2009 NVIDIA chipsets for the AMD market have not been significantly upgraded for the past year+, and even their "latest" 980a product is a rebranded 780a from last year. We dug around to see if NVIDIA was in fact abandoning the AMD platform, and SLI for the latest Phenom II along with it. You will likely be surprised by our findings and just willing NVIDIA seems to have been to drop the AMD product line. While the Intel side has untapped potential due to its dominance in the marketplace, the upcoming obsolescence of the front side bus based platform that Intel has used for decades will eventually cut NVIDIA out of the market altogether. Unless of course NVIDIA can acquire the necessary licenses to offer QPI and DMI based chipsets. We can certainly ask VIA how well that process went for them."
