Synium Software releases MacFamilyTree 5.5 with History Database - Published on 05/05/09

IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Synium today launches MacFamilyTree 5.5. This update introduces a History Database enabling the user to browse hundreds of predefined historical entries or add world and personal history events. A completely rewritten database engine delivers much faster response times, even with huge family trees. Also new with version 5.5: Fully redesigned Search, additional statistical Charts and a customizable Auto-Save. Version 5.5 is a free update for existing users of version 5.0-5.4.

Mainz, Germany - After several weeks of thorough testing, Synium Software announces the end the public beta cycle and releases MacFamilyTree 5.5 as s final version. With Version 5.5, the popular genealogy application for the Mac gets even better. Ever wanted to know who governed a country at the time of your great great grandmother? MacFamilyTree's brand new History Database allows you to view every person or family event in a greater historical context: Browse hundreds of predefined entries and add your own data of global and regional relevance.

Our sample events are fully-localized and integrate with Wikipedia.org, your own entries may easily be linked to Web URLs, too. While viewing an individual's information or reports and when editing, MacFamilyTree displays important events taking place during one's lifetime or at any specific date. And, all the historical data is also available when exporting your family trees to the Web.

Users with huge family trees will appreciate MacFamilyTree's completely rewritten genealogy database technology. GEDCOM import, as well as viewing and editing of information in your family tree is much faster now. While the speed increase is dramatic for users of Mac OS X 10.5 'Leopard', it notably affects 10.4 'Tiger' too. And, since MacFamilyTree now also requires less physical memory, especially older Macs benefit from the new database engine.

MacFamilyTree 5.5 also introduces a completely new Search feature: With a more intuitive and powerful search interface, Searching for persons, families, sources and date entries has never been easier. Results now appear instantly while typing.

During MacFamilyTree's beta cycle, several customer requests were included. MacFamilyTree optionally displays seperate columns for first and last name in person or kinship reports. Search results can be filtered by label. And last but not least several reported bugs were fixed.
