which distro will install on ntfs? if any?

topic says it all, just looking for something to switch over to rather than have to switch hard drives (cant resize this part.)

Nope. Currently, there is preliminary support for reading NTFS filesystems, but attempting to write to one still causes major filesystem corruption. Therefore, you won't find a Linux distribution that will install top NTFS.

 

However, if you're planning on swithing over, why not just repartition the hard drive?

If you don't need the NTFS partition, delete it. IF you do, Mandrake 9.1 allows you to resize your NTFS partition and create empty space where you may install your Linux system.

It goes without saying that Linux performs best with its native filesystems. XFS, JFS, ext3 and Reiserfs are all good and stable.

I recommend ext3 for backwards compatibility if you are just beginning to dabble in Linux.
