ToRnHeArTeD 0 Posted September 21, 2005 I'm making this posting, for people to put their solutions for the problems of making Might and Magic 6, 7 and 8 to run on Xp. I'll be going through all the forums and posting as many solutions as I can find. Hope any computer wiz's out there will give a helping hand Share this post Link to post
ToRnHeArTeD 0 Posted September 21, 2005 This might and magic 6 solution worked for me. posted by enigma1 I had the same problem so I had to slightly modify the main might and magic VI executable. Here is the link http://www.asymmetrics.com/MMVI/mm6_mod.zip make sure compatibility mode is OFF for the executable and read the install instructions in the zip archive. The problem was with the timing tuning the game was attempting to do. I noticed that with >2.0GHz processors is likely to have the problem. Also version 1.2 of mighty and magic VI (patch) is required. This is where the modified executable is based. Hope it helps Mark S. to read rest of thread: http://www.ntcompatible.com/thread27723-1.html Share this post Link to post
ToRnHeArTeD 0 Posted September 21, 2005 Another solution for MM6: posted by: ngwizard32 I had the EXACT same problem.( getting error about file missing when trying to double click the icon to start the game ) this is how I FINALLY fixed it... right click the might and magic icon on your desktop and select "properties". next press the buttons "find target" you should see icons. double click the icon that reads mm6_12xp ( I think this was a patch that I downloaded but I don't know ). then you should see a message that says "insert disc 2" insert the disc and the game should automatically start. This will work. Best of luck and enjoy the game!!!!! Thread: http://www.ntcompatible.com/thread27723-1.html Share this post Link to post
ToRnHeArTeD 0 Posted September 21, 2005 Might and Magic 8, this didn't work for me: Posted by: Manalishi66 I found a workaround for Might & Magic 8 that worked on my XP system. Try the following.... Start - Run (run a program) regedit (loads the registry editor) Search - "New World Computing" (search for the NWC string) Make sure the Key found is "My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\New World Computing\Day of the Destroyer\1.0" Change the key "3DSoundAvailable" to be '0' Change the key "Disable3DSound" to be '1' Exit regedit RIGHT click on the icon for MM8 on your desktop Select Properities Under program name, change "mm8setup.exe" to be "mm8.exe" Apply, and quit You're Done, you should now be able to load and play the game, but without 3D sound (you will have standard sound)! ToRnHeArTeD 0 Posted September 21, 2005 Might and Magic 7, this post is old, so I don't know if the link works anymore. posted by: minnow Hey guys, I was searching a fix for mm7 and by reading on this page i figured how to fix this **** since the compatibility mode (last reply) didn't work for me. 1. Download "Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit 3.0" from microsoft. Easy way, just copy/paste the quote in their search engine and download. 2. Then, download this patch http://minnow1911.tripod.com/mm7_XP_patch.sdb in order to bypass the system version check. 3. Execute the file and you should have a message like "Installation of MM7_XP_Patch complete". If not, return to #1. 4. Last thing, dunno if it's for everyone, but you have to disable "Hardware accelerated" by running MM7Setup.exe. Sound is a bit chippy for me but working great. And here's how to make the patch work: Posted by: trailblazer The way I made it work: I downloaded the file http://minnow1911.tripod.com/mm7_XP_patch.sdb. Because of some tripod ads, what you see is the contents of the file plus ads. To download the file properly, use a download manager like FlashGet, paste the URL to the manager and download it. If you can't get this to work, I have the file. (since I don't check here too often, better mail me and hope mail doens't go with the rest of the spam ;o) After you download it, open the Toolkit, click Open and target the file. It should load ok. Now, if you try to run it, it will seek for the mm7.icd, and it won't be able to start anyway because it is not an executable. So run the proper .exe from your HD. ToRnHeArTeD 0 Posted September 21, 2005 MM7 solution: posted by: pos Hey guys, I was having the same problem along with the smacker error and all sorts of other direct 3d initiation problems even when using software mode and 3d sound disabled. I could enter the game start creating my party but then the smacker thing happened. The thing that worked for me is setting the windows colors to 16 bit instead of 32. Viola all is solved. I also did downlaod the microsoft compatibility toolkit 3.0 but dun think i really needed that. gl. Thread: http://www.ntcompatible.com/thread25973-2.html Share this post Link to post

ToRnHeArTeD 0 Posted September 21, 2005 MM7 solution: posted by: googleguy For those of you who cannot get the compatibility file, you can create one yourself: 1) Download and install the Application Compatibility Kit from Microsoft 2) Run Compatibility Administrator 3) In the tree on the left, under Applications, find Might and Magic VII. Right click it and say "Copy" 4) Scroll down to the bottom of the tree to New Database(1) [untitled_1] 5) Right click on it and paste. You should see Might and Magic VII under it. Go to File->Save in the menu. Call the database mm7. Click ok. Browse to the folder with might and magic 7 (c:\Program Files\3DO\Might and Magic VII for example) and save. 6) Right click on what is mm7 now with the path (was New Database(1) [untitled_1]) and click Install. 7) Now everytime you run MM7.exe and MM7Setup.exe, it will use the compatibility fix. Incidentally, to get mine to work, I needed to put Software Rendering AND Disable Accelerated 3D Sound by running mm7setup.exe. Furthermore, I needed to turn off compatibility mode for both applications (i.e. don't put Windows 95 mode). Hope that helps, Steve Thread: http://www.ntcompatible.com/thread25973-2.html Share this post Link to post

ToRnHeArTeD 0 Posted September 21, 2005 MM7 solution: Similar to another post, but gives a reason. Posted by: Shire Don't know if anyone still reads this topic, but I found it with google, I trust that anyone with this problem will do the same, so I post my solution to this problem. WinXP professional edition, mm7 and the newest patch. Put your desktop to 16bit colors. Install with extra graphs. Once install is complete, it will as to register, click cancel (this is the trick for my puter, if I do the reg, the game won't run). Check that no compatibility modes are active on mm7.exe or the mm7setup.exe Run the setup, choose no 3d sound and no 3d graphs, then click run. I played the game through a week ago, then unisntalled, yesterday decided to go for another run and installed. To my surprise, it didn't work! I started thinking what I changed or did different this time. So I finally tracked the reason to that registration, at least in my case. ToRnHeArTeD 0 Posted September 21, 2005 MM6, MM7 And MM8: Referal Post by: gigiquebec bold textGotcha!bold text After reading everything in this forum, I looked somewhere else and I found a solution for MM8 (I included the thips for MM6 and MM7 but I didn't try them)on Windows XP!!! Thanks to that person!!! Try this: Might and Magic VI-IX on XP Pro Service Pack 2 IMPORTANT: Download Windows Application Compatibility Toolkit from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...mp;Hash=M5X9DQ4 and install. I had hardware accelerated mode for video on ALL except MM7. I was not able to select sound options at all on MM6-MM7. 1. MM6 -http://home.mchsi.com/~andy4590/mm6x.zip Follow the instructions included. This allows you to play on XP with the CD. 2. MM7 -First run MM7 configuration utility and change to software 3d. Go to your MM7 directory and right click MM7.exe and choose properties. Click the Compatibility tab. Go to compatibility mode area and click run this program in compatibility mode. Then choose Windows 98/ME and click okay. Then goto the start menu, then run, and type dxdiag. Click the sound tab. Then under directx features move the slider all the way down to no acceleration Hardware sound Acceleration level. Now run the game. You will need the cd. < 3. MM8 -To play MM8 you need to have installed Windows Application Compatibility Toolkit. You will need to download http://home.mchsi.com/~andy4590/MM8comXpProSP2.sdb Browse to the start menu, then programs, then to Microsoft Windows Application Compatibility Toolkit, and then click on Compatibility Administrator Tool 3.0. Click open and browse to where you saved MM8comXpProSP2.sdb and open the file. Under New Database you should see a new entry. Something like MM8 [c:\Documents and Settings\Drew\Desktop\MM8comXpProSP2.sdb] Right click this and chose install. Go to your MM8 directory and right click MM8.exe and choose properties. Click the Compatibility tab. Go to compatibility mode area and click run this program in compatibility mode. Then choose Windows 98/ME and click okay. Now run MM8 and enjoy. I hope this will work for you too!!! Works just fine for me! Thread: http://www.ntcompatible.com/thread25973-3.html Share this post Link to post
ToRnHeArTeD 0 Posted September 21, 2005 Solution MM7: Posted By: HunterX well, for all you who want to play the game with all the bells & whistles. A very kind gamer has made a patch that fixes most (if not all) of MM7 problems. I tried the patch myself and i rest assure that it works with Hardware Aceleration enabled. Quoting the author : "Hi, I created an experimental patch for Might & Magic VII while replaying the game again. I posted the link on another M&M forum and so far only 1 person tried it and confirmed that it works (as I don't have english version of the game and only tested it using a version in my native language). You must update your game to v1.1 before using my patch as it does not contain updated Data\Events.lod & MM7Setup.exe files with the original bugfixes. Tested here on 2 configurations: - AMD64 3500+, NVidia GF6800 GT, 1GB of memory, XP SP2. - P4 2.66, ATI Radeon 8500, 1GB of memory, XP SP2. Let me know if it works for you. -Mok Changes: - fixed 3D hardware compatibility under Windows XP (SP2). Win2K not tested. No need to use any compatibilty modes on the executables anymore. Disabling V-Sync in your gfx card's drivers is not recommended or you might get lots of white screen flashes (especially on ATI hardware). - probably fixed 3D Sound compatibilty. Updated all 3 Rad Games libraries to much newer versions (Bink, Smacker and Miles Sound System). - fixed a saving game message in the Arena. You'll get 'No saving in the arena'. - fixed a bug which caused inventory corruption if you used Recharge spell on a wand with no charges. Now it will simply fail on such wands. - the game will no longer generate wands with max number of charges = 0. It will be minimum 1 charge. Existing wands won't be upgraded. - fixed a bug in Paralyze spell that allowed you to target a dead monster to kill it several times. It will not work on dead opponents anymore." ToRnHeArTeD 0 Posted September 21, 2005 MM7 Solution: Posted by: pentajet solution to "smacker error" problem ----------------------------------- The smacker error problem and the compatibility problems with WinXP are two distinct things. The "smacker error" problem is caused when one tries to use disc 1 of an earlier release with disc 2 of a later release. During installation Disc1 will not recognize Disc2 and fail to install the animations to the hard drive. There are two solutions: 1) Play the Animations from Disc: - Uninstall Might and Magic 7 - Insert Disc 1 and install again - When asked if you want to install "extra content" uncheck the box for the "magic7.vid" file. - Let it finish the installation - Place and keep Disc2 in your CDROM - Run the game normally. The "Smacker error" should be gone and the animations will load normally from the CDROM. 2) Manually install the files from Disc 2 Only way to go if you want the animations to load from the hard drive. This is very tough and I am afarid someone more knowledgable than me will be required for this one. Basically that's the only way Thread: http://www.ntcompatible.com/thread25973-4.html Share this post Link to post

ToRnHeArTeD 0 Posted September 21, 2005 I found this no Cd download for MM8, I don't know if it works, or really how to make it work. I'm sure one of you computer wiz's can work it out...This site has starred out a word, therefore the link doesn't work, go to the gaming bliss thread to get the other link: posted on Gaming Bliss, by roley_lord http://www.gamingbliss.com/mightandmagic8pc.html Right i've fixed it so listen up. First change it to windows 95 compatibility mode. Now you need to download this no-cd crack. http://www.megagames.com/cracks/html/c32570_0.htm Right replace the .exe file with the one in the crack. Now in the config utility of the game, put it under these settings:Full screen, Hardware accelerated, disable accelerated 3D Audio. Make sure you don't have the cd in, and every time you wanna play the game , you have to go through the game config utility first. *Bonus, no cd needed!!!! Share this post Link to post
ToRnHeArTeD 0 Posted September 21, 2005 For those of you using MM8 on windows ME, this worked for me: I went to the directX(version 9) folder and went into to the Diagnostic tool. (just do a search for DxDiag and double click. I then went to the "display" settings and disabled the direct draw acceleration...this also disables the direct3d acceleration and the AGP texture acceleration. Then MM8 worked for me. When you try run other games you Must! remember to enable the settings again... This only worked on Windows ME, I tried Xp but didn't work. By all means try for Win 98 and 2000 and MM6 and MM7 it might work, but I haven't tried. Share this post Link to post
