DHCP not working in WIN2K

Recommended Posts

PLEASE HELP!

I'm trying to network an old computer to my new one. New machine is running XP and is connected to the internet through a router attached to a DSL modem. It works great- no problem. I just reformatted the old computer and installed Win 2k Pro - but when I attach it to the router, it won't connect to the internet or home network. The cable and router are all fine - when I attach the same line into another computer it works, no problem. This win2k computer, though, is not pulling an IP from DHCP- instead getting a 169.254.x.x address. Please help

I should add that the router works fine for a wireless connection I have, too.

Have you tried d/l the latest OEM drivers for the NIC on that machine and installing them ?!?

You have another box that can connect so d/l them on that machine and burn them to a CD or something to use on the older box.

It's possible that the bundled Win 2K drivers are not working properly with that older machines NIC wink
