Connecting Sidewinder Pro to laptop

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have just unpacked my joy stick after a couple of years. I used to use it with a Dell desktop running Windows 98. My laptop runs XP. I bought an adapter so that I could plug the joystick into one of the laptop's USB ports. However, when I plug it in, I get a message that says: "Power Surge on Hub Port: A USB device has malfunctioned and exceeded the power limits of its hub port. You should disconnect the device." Does anyone know of a way to remedy this, so I can start gaming again?

Please email me directly if you don't mind.

Thanks,

Andrew

Annie,

Thanks for your advice. I think I need more clarification.

My wife has what I think is a powered USB hub, made by Targus. It plugs into my computer's USB port and has four ports to plug peripherals into. Whenn I plug it into the computer, those ports light up. However, I still encounter the same problem when I plug the joy stick in.

Does the powered hub have to be plugged into a separate power source of its own?

Andrew

Is the laptop running on AC power or battery?

I have seen this error before on laptops when the battery was low or not in good shape switching to AC power was the fix.
