I'm really getting alarmed at all these ppp errors folks seem to be getting with the Actiontec serial modem. There just seems to be a rash of them here lately, and I'm not sure what the problem is. I've used mine with just about every major distro and with kernels from 2.2 to 2.6.10 and it has never failed me.

This leads me to believe their might be something different with some ISP's that I'm not experiencing, or maybe there is some sort of configuration in kppp that is causing the problem. To all who are recieving this error, I presume you are using kppp? I've had better luck all the way around with wvdial. It's a command line dialer that is easy to configure and use. You might want to try it if you are now using kppp. Then, if you ARE using wvdial, try kppp.

I wish I could help more...

Dan, what model do you have? I just looked at the Actiontec web page.

Model # EX560LKA is not listed as suported by Linux.

Model # EX560LKC is listed as supported.

The latter has a Lucent Venus chipset.

The first, does not specify the chipset.

Wanta make a bet?

For the EX560LKA, the faq states;

Quote:
Q:

How do I install the modem for Linux?

A:

Connect the External Call Waiting modem to a serial port on the back of the computer. Connect the power supply. Turn the modem on. It is now ready for use. Select the /dev/ttySx or /dev/cuax that the modem is on in any communication software you plan to use the modem with.

I have the EX560LKA. I wrongly assumed they all were using the same chipset. Which one are you using linuxlove?

Try this as root user in a console;

adduser <name-of-user> dip

Where the username is your login name.

So, mine would be;

adduser danleff dip
