Force install directX? Where's that dang tool?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys. My first time here. Pleased.

I'm having problems with a game i'm trying to run that needs directx 9.0c.

The problem is that the installer just skips to the part where it says that everything is installed, but it takes like less than a sec, so i know it hasn't done anything. I remember having this "fun" prob before, with another install of XP Pro and vaguely recall using a tool that forced installed directx and everything was fine. I've tried uninstalling completely and reinstall directx 8 (Happy Uninstall Directx), but it's the exact same thing when i try to reinstall.

It's the same with the redist version.

So, if anyone knows of the force install tool i'd be a happy camper and buy him a beer!

Of course i looked all over this forum and the net, but the info i need is disappeared.

Cheers!

BTW. I'm running XP Pro with sp2 integrated.

It is not installing cause you must already have the version installed that you are trying to install.

What does dxdiag say for version?

About all I could find is this list of fixes.

Scroll down for the answers.

Yes, it comes with sp2, but there's something wrong with it, and i think it's a fault on my windows xp disk or something.

Dxdiag says its dx 8.1 and it's missing a couple of files, but i thinks thats because of me messing with The Happy Uninstaller you linked me to.

Trying the other thing with the registry edit, I'll let you know it it works.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Try running "sfc /scannow".

'Scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.'

If this does not work, try backing up your files and doing repair installation of XP.
