help! IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL & PFN_LIST_CORRUPT help!

Recommended Posts

Hi all - I'm really hoping one of you gurus have seen this before and it is some kind of Known Issue where there is a workaround.

I have a XP Home v2002 SP1 2003 Sony Vaio 505 laptop with no added hardware and a few installed applications. Ok maybe more than a few.

This PC never gave me problems before, but after I left it in hibernate for about a month while travelling, I came back, took it out of hibernation, and it blue screened for the first time ever. This is the Stop Error I got:

IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

0x0000000A (0x00000020, 0x00000002,0x0000000, 0x8050377C)

Just before my trip I installed Creative MuVo disc for the new mp3 player I bought for my trip. I have since uninstalled it (and a few other recently installed apps).

Anyway, it started BSoD'ing after only about 30 minutes. One possible culprit is that I see the heat fan on after the blue screen. Not sure why it would run hotter now than before, the weather is the same every day here in Singapore (I'm not from here and don't know who could help). Additional information is that I do not move the laptop much so doubt it has been damaged. If I were to suspect anything it might be the CD drive but not sure, because it does work.

Although I was once a Unix SA and did some Level 2 NT SA work years ago, I'm relatively clueless about PCs. But this should be an obvious problem as it's a standard unit with few and simple changes. Unless there are some issues with Sonys I am unaware of....

I set the dump to full memory dump and have one of those.

The Stop Errors I was getting consistently afterwards was:

IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

(0x00000002 0x00000002 0xF895D484, 0x00000001, 0x805274C2)

(Question - is there a place these are logged that I could view or send?)

NEXT....after spending the entire day today looking at this as it continued to BS, I went into Safe Mode, defragged C:, ran chkdsk on C: & D:. I lost count of how many times it BS'd just as the machine are restarting and either never made it to Windows, or, BS'd only a minute or so afterwards.

It BSoD'd a few more times, then came up and I could use it for ~30 minutes, it BSoD'd again with this:

PFN_LIST_CORRUPT

0x0000004E (0x0000004E, 0x00000099, 0x0000000, 0x0000000)

This happened only one time (knock on wood), the symptom was I lost the cursor and it did nothing for a long time, probably due to the full dump setting.

One odd thing is that the Vaio logo started coming on before Windows started, I don't remember that ever happening.

Your (patient) help would be very, very much appreciated such as the great assistance given to "shassouneh" on the "STOP errors maybe related to faulty cache memory? NEED HELP" thread by Alien, Davros, Ironwalk, Sampsom, Dirty Harry, and other generous folks.

This error/bsod seems to indicate some issues with the memory. I've seen this with desktops when attempting to install XP or 2K. To correct it I've had to replace the dimm module(s) in that machine.

You could have a flaky SO-DIMM in your laptop I'm afraid. Did you recently add another stick of ram ?!? If so, perhaps it's this stick causing the problem. Try removing it and see what happens. If you only have the single stick of ram then I'd look to get it replaced.

update on this:

I got more Stop Errors:

PFN_LIST_CORRUPT

0x0000004E (0x00000002, 0x00080ADD, 0x0001FF6F, 0x0000626E)

couldn't get a mem dump because it did not show that on the blue scree,

and after rebooting, got this:

IRQ__NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

0x0000000A: (0xF8950484, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x805274C2)

as soon as it restarted the fan cam on and it was blowing hot air

thanks for the reply, jmmijo, will check that out in the morning (it's 3am here....)

(got a full mem dump of this one.

Wouldn't start again, kept blue screening, then defrag'ed D:, restarted, BS'd again, then got it to start (how I'm writing this)

Please help......

just before bed got two more (3 actually) it BS'd, then I tried restarting, BS'd on that, then I restarted again, it BS'd and I restarted again and it came up.

Here's the Stop errors in order:

PFN_LIST_CORRUPT

0x00000004E (0x00000002, 0x00080ADD, 0x001FF6F, 0x0000200A)

IRQ__NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

0x000000A: (0xF8950484, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x805274C2)

IRQ__NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

0x0000000A: (0x69052BFC, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x80513586)

wish I knew what these damn numbers meant

jmmijo: thanks for the advice - I will check out the memory, but FYI, I have never touched the mem nor installed Windows, it has the stock 512mb, it may be more than one stick - hope that's easy to get to and replace.....

Well it's pretty easy to find here in the US, not sure about where you live however wink

A lot of times the IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error can be because of power supply or in a laptop's case the battery. It can be caused by memory too but I have seen over 300 cases in my shop where it was power supply or battery.

Try checking memory with Memtest and if memory has no errors then look into either power supply or battery problem.

thanks zombie and jmmijo

will check both mem and power

in the meantime, I got the below from the EventVwr and just wonder if it's helpful (have a Excel sheet if I can attact that somehow) - this is tab-delimited:

while doing what you kind folks recommended, I may have screwed things up even further by following Help and runnning msconfig

please see my current, related trials and tribulations at:

http://www.ntcompatible.com/thread31378-1.html

so, it's not BS'ing now but there is another problem, pre-BS I believe - that problem may indicate what the BSing started in the first place
