Windows XP Drivers...i think...

Recommended Posts

I have recently re-installed windows XP on my laptop and I have been having some issues, most of which I've fixed, but I cannot figure out my USB's. I have a 300GB external hard drive and it is pluged in through a usb port. It now tells me that i have a high-speed device plugged into a low speed USB hub. This never happend before the re-install. There is a big difference in the speed between the two now as well. Is this a drivers problem...please help.

Yes, this looks to be a device drivers issue.

If your notebook is based on one of the more popular chipsets, then please check out the correct website and d/l the latest INF/Chipset drivers and/or USB drivers.

Intel

Via

SiS

ALi

You can also check out the notebook manufacturers website for updated drivers, however they don't always have the very latest versions wink

Since you've re-installed XP, make sure you have at least SP1 installed.

That seems to be a bug in Windows XP, since my father's USB TV Tuner (Pinnacle) is sometimes having that problem too. It was reported on support.microsoft.com once, but I can't find it anymore. It had something to do with the EHCI drivers.
