Cd-rom error

Recommended Posts

Hey guys! Once again, I need help. I need to find out how to fix my cd-rom drive. I am receiving the error "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)" If anyone could help me with this I would greatly appreciate it.

The way I solved it, is either you have to get the driver for this cdrom.

Or do an upgrade to the OS.

Have you tried checking the cables on the cdrom. LAST RESORT.

Try a different cdrom. LAST RESORT.

I wound up wiping out the whole machine and it saw the cdrom.

Make sure you see the CDROM when you boot up.

Hope this helps.

This is how I would solve it.

First make sure your BIOS sees the drive. If so then get a DOS disk, like a windows 98 boot disk. If you do not have one then you can download one from here:

http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm

Boot from this disk and if DOS sees the drive and you can read a disk from it then I would just boot back into Windows, delete the drive from 'Device Manager', and reboot. Windows should auto detect the drive and reload the correct driver.
