Recommended Posts

there were a few previous versions of linux i beleive that would run off a floppy disk i beleive (v5 or something?) - they were used as firewall boxes and such. - i was going to do one myself but never got around to it.

Do you have any experience with them? are they any good or worth using?

I've used muLinux before as I wanted something really small that would let me test out a few bash scripts. Installing anything else would have been overkill for that. It's actually very good and I would recommend it.

I've used Trinux as well. It has all of the favourite network utilities, such as nmap, so it's great if you want to check for security holes on a network that still have floppy drive access.

Bootable CDs (ala Knoppix) are another option, some can save config files to either a floppy or USB flash drive, so that's an option too.

Plug for Knoppix here, and it's spin-offs:

ClusterKnoppix

Knoppix STD (Intrusion detection, etc.)

KnoppixMAME

Also, Movix looks neat too.
