Needs advice

Recommended Posts

We had a 36 gig HD that was divided into a 1G and a 35G. 1G is used for the current NT server applications. Attempted to install Quickbooks Basic 2003 on 35G. Program attempted install of IE 6.0 on 1G but found insufficient space. Attempted to clear sufficient space, was unable to. Information on 35G needed for network to run properly. 35G is being used as storage and contains costly programs. What can be done to preserve info on 35G while increasing 1G? Yes is mirrored. Yes is one physical HD.

Use something like Partition Commander. This will allow you to resize the system (1G) Partition and the data (35G) Partition on the fly, without losing any information. Just remember to adjust your mirror(s) as well.

if it is an IDE drive use Norton ghost first to create an image of 35G partition and 1GB partition (if needed) and just re-partition the drive and reimage the partitions. If you are using software/hardware raid or SCSI do some studying on that and check for compatibility of applications like Norton ghost, partition magic, etc.

just as personal preference i don't like Partition Magic, even though some people find it very useful.

Also, be careful of possible GUID changes if you do choose the image/ghost route, as that could muck up your server quite bad.
