Red Hat collects machine-identifiable information

Recommended Posts

Don't mean to seem like a troll, but I just discovered this morning that Red Hat has a log of my workstation on their up2date service. This isn't news, so I didn't really submit it as news (I'll leave it up to Philip to decide that)... but still, I think it's interesting that Linux zealots accuse Microsoft of collecting this type of information when Red Hat does it also.

I made a quick writeup about this with a screenshot at:

When you signed up for up2date, you had the option of having it log your information and machine config to them. You could also have declined using their service period and just downloaded the updates on your own.
