How to completely remove Internet Explorer 6 from XP system?

Recommended Posts

In my humble opinion this is not possible for windows 2000 and XP. There was something like ie-eradicator, but only for w95 - w98.

Probably the closest thing would be to install the browser of your choice, JVM (if necessary) and XP SP1, and choose to set program access defaults to the new browser and JVM.

IE (6) is so tightly intergrated into the shell and explorer.exe that it's if you are able to remove it, you would lose some shell functionality, and it would be a hacked up mess, to put it simply.

Personally, I use Mozilla, and just set it to the default browser in Windows 2000, and I haven't had to go back to IE yet.

98Lite allows you remove IE from 9x systems and the developer has a version for XP in the works which promises the same functionality.

Despite the fact that I despise IE as a broswer I've resisted uninstalling it all these years because I appreciated the fact that it made the downright ugly Windows 95 GUI somewhat bearable.
