New MotherBoard Help

I am building a computer for my dad and i'd like your opion on which motherboard i should use. keep in mind that it needs to be stable, will be using DDR266(pc2100)Ram and i only want to spend AUS$200 max on the motherboard but will spend $240 if you really think that the $240 motherboard is much more stable and better.

*I also allready have the network card, sb vibra sound card and an external modem all i need is motherboard, cpu and ram.

*also will any of these motherboards fit a celeron? im asking because i was thinking if i get a really good motherboard and a cheap cpu($100) i can then buy a really good cpu later on (in 5 months or somthing) when the prices go down. can i do this or should i just buy a pentium 1800a for $313?

thanks for you help.

Here are some of my options for the motherboards:

Asus:

P4S333: 533Mhz FSB,3x DDR333,6PCI,6-channel audio $240

P4S333-C: 400Mhz FSB,3x DDR333,6PCI,6-channel audio $175

P4S333-VM: 400Mhz FSB,2x DDR,3PCI,AC'97 audio,Vga,Lan $160

Gigabyte:

GA-8IE: 533Mhz FSB,3x DDR266,5PCI,AC'97 audio,Usb 2.0 $200

GA-8IG: 533Mhz FSB,3x DDR266,5PCI,AC'97 audio,Usb2.0 $230

GA-8IRX: 400Mhz FSB,3x DDR266,6PCI $170

For best upgradability, yes. Also, the on-board C-Media 6 channel sound isn't bad, and unless you're an audio freak, that will save you a sound card. I haven't used it, but people like it, and Asus hasn't become as big as they are by producing crap.

Celerons should work w/o a hitch as they use the old P4 core (Willamette) which is accepted on P4 boards. If you can swing it, I'd go for the P4, but that's not completely necessary.

All new celerons use the 478 pin as the regualr P4's do, but still only run at a 100mhz / fsb

i would go with Asus - as my self that is all i have used.

i would say : (prices are canadian)

Asus P4S533, Socket 478, SiS 645DX / 961B Chipsets, Supports DDR Ram ONLY (ATX) $164.99 (uses the SIS chipset instead of the intel and save u $30 canadian :))

My uncle has one of these, he has not had 1 problem! no crashes, nadda!

Disabled the onboard sound for his blaster card though.
