Removing / Reinstalling Detonator drivers

Recommended Posts

What is the correct procedure to do this? Right now, I go into control panel, add/remove, uninstall them. Then I reboot, and windows detects vga then gf3 adapter. It installs its default nvidia drivers, then I just run the exe file for the new dets, and install.

This correct?

Nothing wrong with that procedure. It's even recommended by Nvidia itself.

The only thing I do different is instead of running the Setup program I go to the video card directly in Device Manager and point it to the .INF file where my Dets are. This removes the setup program from the equation and let's me know exactly what it is that I am doing.

I just run the setup with the older drivers still installed and have had no problems. I've been doing it since the first det. release. I've had a TNT, TNT2 Ultra, Geforce 2 GTS, Geforce2 Ti, and a Geforce 3 ti 200.

Most companies recommend installing the default driver or VGA device, but I never have noticed a difference.

Also I don't download the latest and greatest driver leaks, I wait until nvidia releases new ones on their site. A few more frame per seconds in quake3 or a few hundred points in 3dmark isn't worth the problems I have run in to on games in the past.
