Slow shutdown

Recommended Posts

I saw it somewhere in the forums about a command in the registry for the timeout for services shutting down faster.

Can anyone give me some info on it.

My XP takes too long to shut down

Don't know if this is what you are looking for, but these are a few things that might speed up shutdown:

Registry hack:

Two possible registry hacks worked out by others:

A suggestion in relation to Nvidia cards:

In Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Services, stop the Nvidia Driver Helper service

Disabling the Nvidia Driver Helper service made my machine unstable when I tried it one time.

get xsetup from www.xteq.com

load the default gui and go down to Startup/shutdown > shutdown > program timeouts. Set them to 3 seconds.

You should be able to save 5-20 seconds by disabling floppy scanning on shutdown.

Ok, If you don`t know how how to modify the registry - Then DONT.

Do so at your own risk.

Go to Start -> Run and type "regedit".

Go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control"

click on the "Control" folder.

In the right window you will see this key "WaitToKillServiceTimeout"

Double click that key and set it to a value lower than 2000.

I set mine to 100 then Rebooted.

Works great.
