Windows 2000 network really slow

Recommended Posts

I have a Windows 2000 machine on my network that hosts an Internet connection using ICS. The problem is that file transfers, or anything else for that matter are really slow going from another machine to the Windows 2000 one. We are talking 10k/s!

Transfers from the Windows 2000 machine to others are fine though.

Im using a fresh install of 2K too.

Any ideas? Im using a 100mb switch, but have tried connection two machines with a cross-over cable and the same thing has occurred.

Some more info here...

The Windows 2000 machine is running NTFS whearas the XP machine is using Fat32.

All COmputers on the network cannot copy file that contain folder/many small files, but they can transfer large single files quite quickly.

Other Computers on the network can transfer files quickly between each other, including mixes of 2K and XP Operating systems.

The error received when trying to copy to the 2000 ICS server is "The specified network name is no longer available".

So its probably something to do with the TCP/IP receiving buffers on that machine, but what can i do about it?
