i wasn't sure what all of this meant but i figured that i needed "openGL." i went onto the openGL website and downloaded "GLsetup.exe" but when i try to install it i get a message saying that it is only installable on win98 and win95 OS's. i am running windows 2000 pro. what can i do. i am also thinking that maybe the problem is with my video card....but i'm not too sure.

here is some information about my computer so that maybe you can help me better:

AMD K-6 533

Trident Blade 3D

192 MB

Windows 2000 Pro

Direct X 8.1

...i don't know what other information you would need to diagnose my problem. hope you can help. thanks !!!!

It sounds like it is your video card. What chipset is on it? I'm guessing it's some kind of 3dFX chipset from the last few lines you've posted.

I think you're probably going to have to change it for something a bit more capable.

That GLsetup.exe you were trying to use would have been useless, anyway. It's a software solution for video cards without OpenGL drivers, and is useless for games because it uses the cpu for the graphics acceleration. You need OpenGL drivers for the video card, which allows the gpu to do the graphics acceleration.

Check this site to see if this is the card you have.

It doesn't appear to be a 3dfx based card. The website has a drivers link. Supposedly, the card should work for OpenGL. If new drivers don't help, maybe the hardware is just not up to the task. In that case, you would need to get a new video card, for which I refer you back to AlecStaar's suggestion.
