Slow startup - i mean slow!

Recommended Posts

ok! Xp is so slow at start-up, the harddrive clicks for about 10minutes once its entered XP and i cant do anything while its doing this. iv turned all start-up programs off and its no different.I have XP on a 4.5gb C:\ drive on NTFS, iv installed all windows updates files and still no difference, i wud expect this on a 400mhz maybe but not on a 1.2Ghz. Any ideas guyz?

Thanx very much,

damn i hope it really doesnt take 10 minutes heres

did you go into the msconfig and turn off all unnecessary programs ??

heres another thing that also works great

go to microsofts website and search fast boot

its a program they developed for nt and works great with XP

and dowload bootvis.

it will restart your comp. analyze its boot-up and reconfigure the boot sequence it knock bout 14-15 off my boot time

but if its really taking 10 min i'd format and reinstall

Are you sure the harddrive isn't dying? Have you had any other odd issues (crashes, files not found, corrupted files, etc) popping up?
