NT4.0 on Win98 system with Partition magic

Recommended Posts

Hello:

I have been trying to install NT4.0 on a hidden partition with Win98 using Partition

Magic.I run the "prepare for new OS" wizard.

I reboot and configure Bootmagic.When I try

to install NT it says the partition is damaged or unformatted. If I try to format it

I get a fatal error and it aborts the install.I know the hard drive is not damaged.

It is a brand new Quantum Fireball 12.7 gig

Any help is appreciated.

Make sure it 16bit fat is at that root of the Disk not at end nor the Midd way.

you must be with in frist 1024 sec of the drive

Like something this

1 2gig 16 bit fat or NTFS fat for NT4

2 5gig 32bit fat for Windows98SE

3 1gig 16 bit fat For Backup

4 7meg for Bootmagic

I have done that.I converted the entire root

drive to FAT before running the "prepare for new OS" wizard.I even tried using NTFS.

SHS

I downloaded that fix.It did'nt work.

I formatted the whole drive and put NT4

on first as the primary OS.Then I put

Win98 on the hidden partition.I appreciate

all your help.I am new to NT,and I had another question. How do you disable auto insert notification for the cdrom in NT4.

Also,I installed service pack 4.Should I install sp5.Thanks again

This is what I did to install NT4 and Win 98, first I wiped out all partitions then I installed NT4 and I let NT make my partition in the setup. but I too only have SP1 so I heard from a reliable source that up until SP3 NT4 could only see 8 gigs of any drive but I have only been able to convert 4 gigs at a time to NTFS. After I convert that 4 gig partion to ntfs i install NT there. After the install is done I used fdisk on my win98 boot disk to make the rest of the drive into fat 32, and installed win98. After all of that I used a program called Select it and it lets you choose what OS I wanted to load. It is long and hard process but it works.
