Maximum columns/rows in Excel

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know the maximum amount of rows and columns you can have in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet?

I think its unlimited, but not exactly sure.

open a new spreadsheet, press ctrl-down, then ctrl-right. That will put you at the absolute botton right of the sheet. It's not unlimited, but it's pretty big...

It depends on which version of Excel but if it's Excel 97 or above then you'll get 65,536 rows and 256 columns per worksheet with a maximum of 255 worksheets in a workbook.

If it's an earlier version(e.g. Excel 95) then you'll only get 16,384 rows but the other stats remain unchanged.
