Quake 2 on linux?

Recommended Posts

is there a patch that you can get for quake 2, quake 3 arena; team arena etc? that works on linux.. i have the regular windoze verson of them both and on idsoftware.com i can find nothing for linux frown these are each my favorite games and i would be sad without them frown . and also if there isnt does it work on the wine that comes with RH9? i heard that wine comes with RH9 but i cant find out how to run it... so if wine does come with RH and quake 2 doesnt have a patch can someone please explain to me how to run wine? i saw while booting it says "starting service wine"

thanks in advance

Jabird

For quake2 check out these links:

http://www.icculus.org/quake2/

http://www.chez.com/colinf/quake2/CD-MP/quake2-r0.15-io1.i386.rpm

for quake3:

ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/quake3/linux/linuxq3apoint-1.32b-3.x86.mun

These files will install the games. You will need to copy the game data off of your cd's or from your windows installations. You have to have 3d working under linux with a voodoo, nvidia or ati card first.

After you get quake3 working you should check this out:

Right click on the link and choose *Save link target as* (I don't know if it is a problem with the website or Mozilla, but I sometimes get the same problem. It is sending you the file as text, and putting it on the screen. I often get ISOs as JPGs, go figure!) 8)
