take programs off startup?

Recommended Posts

I just installed win 2k so i am asking a basic question. Where do i go to take off some of the programs that run upon startup? Not the startup folder, but the same type of thing like msconfig in 98. Thanks alot

You can also take them out of the 'Run', 'Run Once' sections of the Registry under:

HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version

and

HKEY_CURRENT USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version

NOTE:

Backup the Registry files before doing this and be VERY careful when deleting values (I usually only remove the more obvious ones under those paths, like RealPlayer, Winamp etc) because otherwise your system may not operate correctly afterwards

Hope this helps...

Cheers,

Kaiser.
