    network

It is certainly possible that you may need to run DR TCP to change the settings in Windows, but if it ran really well when your first started, that is probably not the problem. My guess is that you probably have a lot of adware or spyware on your machine, especially if you are using IE. Download SpywareTerminator. Install it and run it. It's free. Whatever anti-virus program you are running - you need to scan your machine with it. If you are using IE, download Maxathon or CrazyBrowser and use them instead. They will give you a little more protection than IE. You would probably do better to run Opera or Firefox. Press Ctrl-Shift-ESC buttons all at once to bring up your task manager. Look at the programs running in the background. You can bring up google and type in each of those programs to see if any one of them are a trojan or a bot. Generally, if you find one that is, you will also find a Symantec (or some other Security software) fix for it.

    Screen Resolution and Driver Update

This is S3's website driver support: http://www.s3graphics.com/en/resources/drivers/ and this is a website that has a number of S3 driver candidates: http://www.savagenews.com/drivers/drivers.php But, as dosfreak has pointed out, you would do much better simply getting an ATI or nVidia card.

HP Color LaserJet 2600n & Printer Excel Files

It is not so much the Color Printer not having enough ram, it is the computer printing to the Color Printer that seems to have the bottleneck. Windows does not print directly to a printer but to a print cache. The print cache communicates to the printer establishes the "handshaking" all the while it is still receiving the document from the program to be printed. Delays in writing the document to the print cache or old print jobs in the cues or just general slowness in setting up the "handshaking" may cause the print cache to go south. As I said, this is one of those problems you have to look at first hand. We had an old laser which had plenty of memory, but which shut itself down when not in use. Our computers were reasonably fast so when they sent a signal to the printer and it took a while to warm up and get ready, the print cache on the computer took the delay as meaning to standby and instead of eventually printing, just left the document in a cue and "forgot" about it. Hence, we put in a small "print server", which, as I said, was nothing other than a little box with memory that received the document from the print cache on the computer immediately, and it did the rest.

HP Color LaserJet 2600n & Printer Excel Files

It isn't that no one wants to respond to your difficulty, but it is one of those problems you really have to be onsite to diagnose. Off the top of my head, it sounds like a memory problem. Excel may be using a lot of ram and when you go to print, there may be some difficulty with the print cache and the handshaking with Color Printer. You could use a print server device, which is nothing more than a box with a lot of memory, in front of the Printer and print to it and let it print to the laser.

    msvcrt.dll error. Please help

Actually, what you would type is - Cd\Windows\system . But this depends on what directory you start from when the Dos prompt comes up. To make sure just type cd\ to get yourself to the root directory, then type cd\Windows\system .

    Help me be SUPERDAD

This would be the most recent DirectX: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...;displaylang=en Just download it and install. From tool_462 it seems that the card will run well with the game. Just take your time, and walk through the steps above.

    Help me be SUPERDAD

The game itself calls for a 3D card with at least 32Meg of memory and support for DirectX 9.1c. Then, again, it also depends upon whether your Dell has an AGP slot. So, there are a lot of "if's". So, you will need to crack open the Dell first to see if there is an AGP slot. If there is and your 4000MX is AGP, you have resolved the first "if". If it does not have an AGP slot, you will need to go with a PCI card like the FX5200. While the computer is still on and before you install anything, you will what to change your video driver to Standard VGA. After you do so, the screen will probably look washed out and ugly and probably Windows will be telling you that it has found new hardware. Ignore that, and shutdown the computer. Once the computer is shut down install the card. Immediately after you turn the computer back on, you will have to get into BIOS. Usually, this means holding down the DEL button or whatever has been designated for the BIOS interrupt. It will say on the screen. In BIOS, you will have to disable the onboard video card. Then, depending on whether it is an AGP or PCI card, you will have to designate one or the other as the first card to look for. Save the settings on exit. It will reboot itself. If all goes well, you will boot back into windows using the new card. If you are using XP it will tell you it has found new hardware and would you like to install the drivers for it. Cancel that. Now, if you have anti-virus running, exit out or make it go to sleep. Nvidia drivers do not always install correctly with the antivirus software running in the background. Take the CD that comes with the card, put it in the CD and let it come up to install the nvidia drivers. These will probably not be the most recent drivers and you can always install later ones from the Nvidia website if you want to. When it has finished, it will want to reboot. Let it, and when it comes up you can readjust your resolution to the way you like it. Next, you will need to go to Microsoft DirectX's website and install Direct 9.1c. Don't know if your 4000MX will support it, but the FX5200 will. Install it, if it isn't installed on your machine. After doing all of that, then you can try running the game. Good luck.

    Please help a dumbie!

Your message is a little confused. I am presuming that you bought a linksys wireless router. In any case, take the end of the ethernet cable that hooked into your computer from the modem and put that end into the linksys router. It should go into the back of the router labeled Internet. Then, run an ethernet connection between any of the output ports on the back of the linksys router to the orginal computer's ethernet port. (I am presuming that your modem was originally connected to a computer that was not wireless). Turn your modem on. When it has connected to the ISP, turn on your router. The router should acquire all the IP addresses automatically. Then, turn on your computer. If you have a wireless router, you then need only to turn on your wireless laptop. Generally, XP will acquire the signal and you can use the wizard or just take the connection offered.

    internet connection ok but nopages

You can ask him to use ipcongig /release then ipconfig /renew from the Dos(command) prompt. If there is still no joy, it can be one of three things - his firewall is blocking the port, his ethernet card may have the wrong drivers, the ethernet card itself is flakey. If he is running Windows firewall, he should take it down, then try again. If he has another software firewall, take it down, then try again. If this does not work, find the manufacturer of the ethernet card, go to their site and download their latest driver and install it. If that does not work, replace the ethernet card.

BAD SLOT or BAD RAM? PLEASE HELP

There is no way of saying given what little testing equipment you have (meaning trial and error). But, you are on the right track. By putting Ram-A into the questionable slot and watching to see if it fails, would be the next step. You might use Sisoft Sandra or download a stress test program to speed the process up a bit.
  13. Hyperthreading is a function of both the presence of the Intel processor and the operating system, WindowsXP. Go here: http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=1687 to get the program from Intel to test your machine to see if hyperthreading is turned on or not.

    video card display driver problem!!

As Relic suggested, this is going to be one of those drawn out analyses that will require you to figure out if it is hardware related or software related. Do as he suggests and find out if the video card itself has a problem. While the MX series was pretty sturdy, they did have fan problems where the fan would not spin up fast enough to knock the heat off of the video processing components. But, another possibility is software related since this did not occur until you installed the webcam. The software provided is notorious for substituting .dll's that are earlier than Microsoft's own or which replace Microsoft's .dll's. Uninstalling the software for the webcam will not resolve the problem since the offending .dll remains behind for the one it had previously overwritten.
  15. Generally, you don't update a Bios unless the manufacturer has an update for a particular motherboard supported by the computer manufacturer. They usually do not do so unless their board is having a problem with some peripheral or the operating system changes in a way that needs to be accomodated. Especially, with laptops you should only update the Bios according to those given by the laptop manufacturer. If you go to the support section of the Packard Bell Easynote M7 webpage and you find no Bios update, look no further.

    Delete Mail in Outlook Express?

The general way to delete them so that they don't go to the delete folder is to hold down Shift and while holding it down, hit Delete. After you have done this you click on File - Folder - Compact all folders.

Possible NIVIDIA driver problem; BSOD (IQRL+page fault)

This is a problem for which there is actually no known solution. It has been variously called the "infinite Nvidia driver loop" to a host of other names. As was pointed out you can try to go to an earlier driver. This has sometimes fixed it. You can use a driver cleaner to take out all bits of the nvidia pieces and reinstall the driver. When memory is being called by several programs, this is the message you often get. One thing you might examine is bringing up your taskmanager and watching the size of programs, particularly when you are on the web. It can happen, that there is an entirely benign process that may suddenly demand a large amount of memory and this in turn bites into the addresses held by the Nvidia drivers.

    file cannot b copied

As Wilhelmus suggests, clean the disk. If that does not resolve the problem, you are left with two possibilities - the file on the disk is corrupted or the CD rom has begun to fail. Try the disk in another computer and see if the same message is received. If it can copy the file, you know that the file and the disk are fine, and you probably have a CD rom that is failing. If it too fails to copy, the file on the disk is probably corrupted. That is half the problem. If your CD rom is the drive that was used to burn the disk originally, and it can copy from the CD rom to the hard drive from other disks you've made, it is possible for that one disk there was an overburn that causes it not to be able to be read. If your CD rom cannot copy other files from other disks to the hard drive, then you may need to replace your CD rom.

    Internet Sharing

The path of least resistance in connecting all computers on a hub to the internet is through a router. You would connect your cable/DSL modem to the router. The router is then connected to the hub. The router will assign all IP addresses internally.

    windows file sharing issue

This might depend on how you have your share set up. If, per chance, you had set the share up for your root directory, it would allow users access to your whole hard drive. If the share is confined to a specific subdirectory, only it and any directories created under it should be available.

    Win XP Firewall stalling downloads?

You would seem to be in the minority of those who need firewall protection and depend on the XP Firewall. It is notable for really messing up network connections as well as inconsistent in what it blocks on the net. Try Outpost Firewall: http://www.majorgeeks.com/Outpost_Firewall_Free_d1056.html It is an "open source" product and is really easy to use.
  23. For the most part the symtoms you describe are due to a lack of line signal. Sometimes, the phone lines themselves are old and the additional impedence dampens the signal or they become so "noisy" that the signal you need gets "silenced". You will need to have your phone company check the signal from the poll to the house, and you may need to replace the lines in the house.

    Linksys wireless connection dropping...

There are three possibilities: 1) the wireless transmitter on the Linksys is having a problem, 2) you could have an uninvited guest logging into your wireless network or 3) you installed a Microsoft update that messed up the communication between your wireless adapter and the computer. My bet is on the third alternative.

DSL Light on Router keeps flashing

This is symptomatic of two things - signal to noise ratio (in other words poor signal over your phone lines) or in relation to the company you have your DSL with, you are too far from the telephone trunk or they are having problems at their server end. My guess is that the telephone lines you are using need to be replaced from the pole to the house and within the house.
