  1. Well, I had a copy of Partition Magic laying around, so I erased my Linux HD and reformatted it and all that, I have decided I am going to retire from linux for a while, and use that hard drive as my file storage (I got about 5 gig worth of files lol) Once I get some of this figured out and there are other programs to use in linux (I am a web page and graphic developer) Gimp is great, but there arent many options for web development there (wysiwyg editors)

thanks for all the help here,

    jabird

I hope I will be back in the near future

    But until then, salutations

  2. No.... I have a Linux hard drive and a Windows Hard drive, I erased the Windows Hard Drive and reinstalled Windows,

Yes, I can boot to windows

and I have Red Hat Linux 9 on my Linux drive.

So... To use partition magic what do I do? boot to the cd and tell it what to erase, or what?

    Thanks

    Jabird

  3. Hello, I haven been here in quite some time frown... anyway,

I recently reinstalled Windows and ever since I havent been able to get linux to boot and my Boot Manager isnt working... Does anyone know how to erase a harddrive with linux on it (with only access to command promp)?

    Thanks in advance,

    Jabird

  4. thats neat, i bet we have alot more people trying linux out (if they know what it is, i didnt know what it was till last year...) it'd be neat if almost everyone moved to linux and micro$t went out of business... i doubt that being as he's such a dirty little fart he'll find away to screw linux over... there goes my micro$t rant for the day...

  5. is there a patch that you can get for quake 2, quake 3 arena; team arena etc? that works on linux.. i have the regular windoze verson of them both and on idsoftware.com i can find nothing for linux frown these are each my favorite games and i would be sad without them frown . and also if there isnt does it work on the wine that comes with RH9? i heard that wine comes with RH9 but i cant find out how to run it... so if wine does come with RH and quake 2 doesnt have a patch can someone please explain to me how to run wine? i saw while booting it says "starting service wine"

    thanks in advance

  9. alright, i am in the system recovery place and i went through all the crap. well now i am at the screen where about 3/4 of it is blue the rest black, it says:

Your system is mounted under the /mnt/sysimage directory

When finished please exit from the shell and your system will reboot.

    i typed:

    /mnt/sysimage, it replys,

    sh: /mnt/sysimage: is a directory

[sarcasm]well thanks a whole lot becouse i didnt know that![/sarcasm]

sooo how do i recover my system becouse it goes through the loading stuff things before it tries to boot linux then when its done loading everything, BLACK SCREEN and moniter turns off!

incase you havent noticed i am a little agrivated

ohh and i have Red hat 9

  10. alright, i have been searching nonstop for good drivers for the US Robotics 2977 drivers for linux, and i cant find anything, i set up the modem anyway and the driver is just Generic Modem now USR 2977. call fowarding doesnt work and thats why i need the drivers so badly. frown

  11. alright, in windoze i could get online with my phone being forwarded (i forward my regular phone to cell phone so i can still get calls) anyway, in linux when i forward the phone and get online it just goes, bum bum bum buuuuuuummmmmmmm (thats the noise it makes to tell you its forwarded) , then it cuts off and does nothing more frown. does anyone do this or have any suggestions on how to fix it?

    Thanks in advance!

  12. hello again,

I need to know if there is a good benchmarking program for linux, because my science project is on computer memory so i need to run a benchmarking program to figure out stats then swap memory. I already did half of it on 1 machine, now i need to do it to mine, because i just moved to linux recently and i doubt the one i used will work in linux.

I also need to know if there is a site similiar to Downloads.com but for linux? all i could find at Downloads.com was Windoze stuff frown.

    thanks in advance!

  13. alright guys thanks alot,

good news smile i got linux up on the internet yay (thats what i am using to post this yay) it turns out i told you wrong, i have a US Robotics 56k oem modem and it works perfectly on linux, didnt even have to find drivers for it! just went to the network place hit new>next>next> set up stuff> next> restart> get on the internet! almost as easy as windoze!

i love linux and will never go back to windoze!!!

    thanks alot

  14. there are about 20 downloads and they all go bout like this:

    wine-20031212-1fc1winehq.athlon.rpm 9105038 3664 i386 .rpm

    wine-20031212-1fc1winehq.i386.rpm 9232763 3647 i386 .rpm

    wine-20031212-1fc1winehq.i686.rpm 9233152 4920 i386 .rpm

i just downloaded the first one though and i will see how it goes from there... thanks alot guys

sorry if i was a pain there

ooo and do i just burn this to a cd like i would an iso, or just regularly burn it and extract it to my hdd on my linux box (i am on a windows box right now).

  15. I installed RH9 like outstream said and i love it, it is my first install of linux and it is awesome, i couldnt ask for anything better, if you install all of the packages you get like 3 or 4 browsers, about 2 or more things for anything you could possibly wanna do and you dont have to pay 600 dollars for it smile to bad RH is canceling free updates frown

    good luck

  16. alright, thanks alot, i wasnt sure if a regular hardware modm would do the job or if i should get an external... what is better about the external modem you will talking about? does it just hold a connection better or does it connect faster? i just wanna know if it is worth it because in a few months to a year i could be getting a wireless internet connection yay 256k/sec

so should i get a cheepo modem till i get the wireless internet because it could be a year or over before i get it, or should i invest in the external modem and be more happy with it?

    thanks for the help again

  17. alright, i am at the sourcefourge page right now trying to decide what to download, i have Redhat Linux 9 so when i scroll down to that section there are about 20 files to download... i am guessing that i just download all of them and burn it to a cd? or install straight from linux... i am on a Windows 2000 computer now because my linux box is at home so i need to download it and install all of them or just one specific?

sorry if i repeated things there smile

i also heard that their is a free wine? where would i get it? is it as good as WineX?

    thanks

    jabird

[edit] can wineX be maximized? because all of the screenshots i've seen of wineX running they all have shrunk down frown..

I have decided i am going to download and pay for wineX but i still gotta get everything else running on linux before i go buying that [/edit]
