    Corrupt graphics in Word 2002

When I use word view simple graphics (boxes, lines etc.) they appear messed up with lines or whole objects missing. I had a look at the MS knowledge base and it states that it’s a driver problem. I have got the newest video drivers 22.80. Does anyone know how to solve this problem without having to turn down the performance tab in display properties? RandyC

alcatel usb modem problems in xp

I know my modem isnt a Alcatel but I had a similar problem with my Terajet as it kept on disconnecting after about 10 secs. I managed to fix it by reseting my bios to the default settings and then it worked when I came back into windows ... Hope this helps RandyC

    am I getting h4xed??

Some good points made epecially: Quote: I'd guess that many educational institutions are not implementing cutting edge fibre optic networks & Cisco tools and WANS of MASSIVE multicampus scale the students design themselves hands on! I know I certainly don’t get anyway near enough work on optic networks. I learn the theory but that’s about it. As for being out of date well that’s inevitable considering how fast the computer industry develops as a whole. Although as AlecStaar states you learn the 'fundamental principles' which provide you with a grounding to learn any newly developed ideas/methods. I treat my degree as a stepping stone it will help me get to positions otherwise not available to me if I went straight in after leaving college. In several years time most of the 'new' material taught to me during the degree will be old hat and maybe superseded by something else but it does tell employers that you are 1. Prepared to learn new material 2. You can hold and regurgitate that material 3. Proves you are fairly intelligent and finally its useful CV padding I could have started to do my CCNA during my second year but I had already taken the module that starts the CCNA (Semester 1 & 2) the previous year before my Uni started to do the CCNA course. O well it seems worthwhile and I enjoy my current network modules so I’ll probably go for it next year part time. Wish me luck RandyC

Ton Clancy Ghost Recon Demo out

Just checked I have a CT4670. I must have installed the wrong drivers for them i've never checked before on what model number my card was. I did find a driver on windows update but I havnt installed it yet. It seems to have a higher version number too. Perhaps that might fix the sound problems ?

    am I getting h4xed??

Ahh didnt read that bit probably because i've never come across a MIS course before. Just wondering if anyone here has done a CCNA course and am wondering how realistically usefull is it in the job world. I always get a biased view from my lecturers as our CS department is partially funded by Cisco. Thanks RandyC

Nvidia GeForce 2 MX 400 video card question

Nope all you need to do is to play dvd's through a player that supports it like powerdvd. I personally dont have a dvd drive but I have used one on a PC with the same graphics card and dvd's play fine with no slowdown unlike playing them on my old rivaTNT card with software decoding. RandyC

    am I getting h4xed??

I've learnet loads about system architecture during my 3 years so far at Uni. Especially in my Networking Principles and Operating Systems modules last year and this year. I guess maybe UK Bsc (Hons) Computer Science degrees go into more depth than some of the states degrees despite being only 3 year courses. I agree working life does suck so i'm doing another year in Uni to concentrate on my final year project(which I could of done this year) and get a CCNA. Have to get a job aswell though as I have to do all of these on a part time basis

Ton Clancy Ghost Recon Demo out

Yeah the demo runs ok except for two problems that i've noticed: 1. It sometimes disconnects without any reason given 2. On two occasions there is this sound that sounds up in the menus and also when in a building (strangly) that gets louder and higher ... so loud/high infact i have to turn my speakers off when it happends. Hope the full version fixes these problems ...

Nvidia GeForce 2 MX 400 video card question

I know the Geforce2MX chipset does do hardware MPEG decoding. So the answer to your question is Yes.

    HP CD Writer Driver

I have a HP 9110 and it works fine in winXPpro with no extra drivers installed. As far as I know you dont need drivers for cdrw drives as most of them use the ATAPI interface which manages them. Aslong as the software you uses supports the drive (and having a HP drive I think most of the popular ones like Easy Cd Creator,CDRWIN etc. do have support for it). Do you mean a firmware update? If you do then I belive you can find them on the HP website. Hope this helps RandyC

Duel booting with an existing OS

Thanks for the replys, I would change it over to the primary partition if I had one. I'll explain again. I have XP on my first hard disk and my old win98 install on a removable harddisk which I use to run between uni and home. XP doesnt pick up the 98 install when i run bootcfg in the recovery console and it doesnt like me placing the line d:\"Windows 98" to try and boot through the boot.ini . Currently i'm having to change the boot drive in the bios each time I want to use win98 to run a program that doesnt like XP (I have tried everything to get it to work under XP i.e. compatibility mode and it doesnt work, just GPF's on me, but in win98 it works fine). If anywone can tell me how to add an existing win98 install to the boot.ini file that I would be very greatful as it saves me booting changing the bios. Duel booting with an existing OS

I am doing that already ... just its a little long winded. I was hoping I could try and get W98 to appear in the Loader before I boot into XP. The only reason I want to do this is because XP wont run a version of Prolog i'm using and there isnt an upgrade for it. I have tried all of the compatibilty modes but with no success ;(
