    Replacing hard drive under XP

It may work if you use something like Ghost. Not 100% sure tho under 2K/XP. It works on Win9x

    Help!

I don't know. The dealer should reflash the BIOS.

    Help!

When I had this message on my system, I rang the shop where I brought it, they said that I should bring it back. What kind of Keyboard are you using USB or PS/2. The Bootblock BIOS is very basic. It provides very basic keyboard access (no numeric keypad). Try another keyboard and see if it helps Try ringing the place where the parts were purchased and see what they have to say.

    Help!

I think that the Award Bootblock BIOS is a built in BIOS recovery thingy. I think it allows you to boot up and flash the BIOS in the event of a corrupted BIOS. Personally, I think you should try and ring the dealer where you brought the board from before attempting anything.

98 vs. ME as Second OS

Win ME was released just to shut the OEMs up. They had to keep giving 98SE with their computers and wanted something new to ship. Thats what I think anyway.

    SB128 PCI CT4700 in Windows 2k?

Squeaking, hmm never heard of that. My friend's onboard SB128 used to crackle constantly under windows 2000. We never found a solution but he ended up buying a SB Live 5.1. You might just have to bite the bullet and get a new card. I think you can get a cheap Muse XL for bout AUD$50.

What should I do ? (HD stuff)

You can use the Win2k/XP recovery console to move/copy files but you have to change your group policy to allow other than root directory access. Also I recommend NTFS as it is more stable.

    SB128 PCI CT4700 in Windows 2k?

I have a SB PCI128 and the drivers are provided with Win2k. They aren't the best drivers but they do the job. But if the card is an onboard version, you may need special drivers because I have a friend who used to have an onboard PCI128 and Windows didn't pick it up.
  9. Anyone have any ideas on how to get this working. When I try to boot Windows XP (also had the problem with Win98 and Win2k) with it connected, it take ages (I suspect trying to initialise UDMA). Then after boot up the device manager says PIO Mode and the transfer rates of the drive are 3.5MB/sec! There is also an entry left in the event log, "The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort1, did not respond within the timeout period." I was thinking along the lines of a low level format but have yet to find software that will do it on a Quantum drive.

Quantum Fireball Refuses to Function in DMA

I have tried all jumper settings and cable positions. The controller is fine as I am using a Maxtor drive on it with no probs. Where do u get the firmware updates from and how are they applied?

Quantum Fireball Refuses to Function in DMA

Actually, it's an UDMA 66 drive. But I have a feeling you are right, I have a feeling it can't be fixed. I have tried everything I can think of.

Quantum Fireball Refuses to Function in DMA

Nah, have the jumpers set correctly. I have also tried the drive in some other computers. Still no UDMA or even DMA.

    new computer

I was just saying that VIA isn't a good choice for a server. If he's just using server for an experiment, install a copy of VMWare and run 2k server under VMWare.
  14. Does windows XP home edition support NTFS folder permissions?
  15. Is there anyway to install and run Windows Media Player 8 on Windows 2000 SP2 without disabling System File Protection?
