The installation stops during the detection of the USB controller or hangs at Activating Hotplug Devices [net pci usb] when rebooting. Cause The cause is still unknown. Solution Note: The workaround described in these lines will disable the USB support. The USB support can be easily reactivated as soon as a solution for this problem is found. Enter the following option at the beginning of the installation: hwprobe=-c03:*:* This option suppresses the hardware probing of all USB devices. Please note that at this stage you are working with a US keyboard layout. Further information on this boot parameter is available in the file /usr/share/doc/packages/hwinfo/README. Proceed with the installation. At the end, a message about LILO being written to the disk will be displayed. Do not confirm this message yet, but switch to the console 2 with CTRL-ALT-F2. A minor change must be performed in the file /usr/lib/YaST2/bin/YaST2.firstboot so that the file /etc/sysconfig/hotplug contains the variable 'HOTPLUG_START_USB="no"'. In our example we use the editor pico, but this editor might not be installed depending on your package selection. If pico is not installed on your system, use joe (/mnt/usr/bin/joe) or vi (/mnt/usr/bin/vi) if you are familiar with its operation. Enter the following: /mnt/usr/bin/pico /mnt/usr/lib/YaST2/bin/YaST2.firstboot Search for the following line (approx. line 80) with the cursor keys: lspci -n 2>/dev/null| grep -q "Class[[:space:]]*0c03" && USB=yes and change it to: lspci -n 2>/dev/null| grep -q "Class[[:space:]]*0c03" && USB=no Quit the editor with CTRL-x, "y", and [ENTER]. Switch back to the console 7 with CTRL-ALT-F7 and confirm the message. Now the installation will be completed.

    Format partition with mandrake

The best way to accomplise that is to use pmagic within your win9x ( xp or whatever ) delete the partition and resize the actual one And then get the win98 boot cd ( cause this is the only one with dos prompt ) (xp aint having none, dos at all, just cmd) and boot in command prompt ( not the setup nor w/o cdrom support ) At the prompt Write : fdisk /mbr ( mbr=master boot record ) which saved my a*s couple of times Then the only OS that'll exist ( and boots auto ) will be your 1st one. Farewell friend.

    MANDRAKE 9 Dualboot Dummy Question

Who said that by installing GRUB/LILO won't let him see his 1st OS again ? Tip : If you wanna keep 1st's OS multiconfig try with a win98 boot cd by starting pc with cdrom support ( not setup but just in dos prompt) and try ( no xp boot cd cause there's no dos , but cmd only ) saved my a*s couple of times : fdisk /mbr ( mbr=master boot record ) and then the only that stays is your 1st OS You can create then from your distro as well to see again both 1st n' 2nd OS Farewell friend

new at linux- cd install problems

Aint boot opts from the bios i think cause he said that the prob is within the installation procedure so no boot probs due to bios opts are refered , something's wrong with the .iso's i guess cause i think happened to me2 once. I don't remember for sure , maybe i tried to burn'em again

    Windows Xp and Linux

Tip : If XP are present in the 1st partition and the 2nd contains other OS'es ( cause in XP there's only prompt and not the old school dos ) try with a boot cd of windows 98 to : Boot from CD in the prompt and not to setup the win9x and write : fdisk /mbr ( mbr=master boot record ) which sometimes saved my a*s So after that no multiconfig boot options etc exists no more but only the one from the 1st OS you've installed at the 1st place... PS.Try Mandrake 9.0 my opinion. Cheers

    Suse 8.1 Pro Installation Problem

So far so good , During the installation progress i pressed cancel to the ehci-hcd only and i probed all the others So the installation was finished Then at the OK's screen halts at the : Starting hotplugging services [net pci usb Sooooooo After a thought i tried to execute : init=/bin/sh and when i took prompt i tried : su root and tried to execute YAST to block the services from being loaded that makes my system halt But it's RONLY so i can't do a thing Any ideas ??? (I tried to fsck and then umount/mount -rw , but still no dice)
  11. For the ati mobility radeon 7500 ? You know my system is laptop.I dunno if there are drivers for it. Anyway i'll go check cause maybe i could do 3D work as well. The graphics though are okay now. Thank you guys for your concern
  12. As for the fonts etc i've made manually a config file and works perfectly. Now if you refer to the PCI collision i'm not done yet... I think it's about the ULTRA ATA
  13. I think that's it ... i'll check it out. I'll keep you informed.
  14. My laptop aint having compability problems , thats the strange, all the cards even the radeon are fully 100% recognized ( and certified for suse i tried this morning ) And its the Presario 2800 p4m 1,6ghz ,32mb radeon mobility 7500 , 512 ram , 30gb hdd,15'' TFT In other words , my linux system is fully operational , no problems at all , all the linux i tried so far , the problem is only " fonts icons interlaced style like lines from above cutting them in the middle ( like matrix ) " So far i tried rh8.0 , debian , suse 8.1 , mandrake 8.1(which works perfectly even the colors) , mandrake 9.0 , gentoo All works fine except of the font-color-type prob i've noticed.
  15. I did both I also tried this morning to install suse the newest ver Live eval though and in the X sessione the same , characters fonts all are f***ed up. Only the coloros you could see right. What should i do ? Buy for example suse original to take support ? Which means i'll buy it and i'll be under oath ? So far only mandrake 8.1 works
  16. What you suggest me to do ? Mandrake so far is the only one which works at least on my laptop , i didnt try installing suse though , ahm just downloading now the Eval ver of it to try it and if its ok i'll get it. I'll let you know as soon as i install suse,if i cant go on i'll try again with mandrake Might be the case you think of , i didnt try it. If you dont mind please check it out for me , i mean think of something and i'll try. Thank you very much for your interest.
  17. I didn't change anything at all.During setup i chose ati radeon.I tried with others but same problem. I think that the PCI : 00:1f.0 resource collision is an ULTRA ATA collision. And as for the vga what results in X on my mandrake starts from the begining in redhat 8.0 install procedure. In other hand the mandrake install shows ok all the grafics and the vga and monitor are recognized while in redhat probes the ati but not the TFT monitor I installed the newest ver of Xfree i did the config too as root but same probs remain. All the ati where there , mine was missing...I tried to choose at least half of them...Still no dice. :x
  18. Yeah , noone so far knows or at least ( Answered me about my problem ).I just installed Xfree4.2.1 , i even did the xf86config ( they've said that they will FIX all the ati cards that they have prob , i saw 10000 cards except of mine ... ) Still no dice.My X seems like my laptop has a 512kb vga , instead of an ati radeon 7500 32mb. If you please help me out as you are the only one who answered so far
  19. Please i really need some help here.Does anyone knows whats going on ??? I can't understand why during the install process of mandrake 9.0 the grafics are okay , while in redhat 8.0 during the instalation procedure does what in my X session of my mandrake. And i cant understand why mandrake 8.1 works fine ( but there's always the : pci oo1f resource collision ) PLEASE ADVISE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
