Well the next time this happens try to turn the fan with your hand to see if it just gets stuck. Maybe some teflon grease would help. But I'd recommend buying a new cpu cooler because stock coolers are not the best. Don't try to save money on the cpu cooler cos if the cpu burns it'll be a lot more money.

I'm running two 512 DDR333 at DDR266 without any problems, so speed shouldn't be a problem. I've also heard of incompatiblility between different ram manufacturers. I'd recommend tho check the Memory Qualified Vendor List of your manufacturer (most of them have one). Or buy a mached pair of corsair, crucial ... tested for dual channel operation. (Check the reviews before you buy) and sell the slower 256MB ram. Do you have a mobo that supports dual channel operation? (e.g i865 and i875 chipset...)

I've tried the same thing on a IBM workstation and windows2000. And everything went ok without any problems. As for the encrypted data I'd recommend to decrypt it. A frend of mine lost 10GB of valuable information that way. (He forgot to backup the key) It should work of, but better be safe than sorry.

Do you have the latest (same) directx and did you install the latest 3dmark patch?

Micro$oft doesn't recommend installing multiple operating systems on a same partition, because they can get in conflict. It could be one of the reasons why you're having problems. You might wanna try a fresh install on an empty partition.

Do you have win98 installed on the partition you are installing win2000?

Always put your system on the fastest drive. Create a 30GB partition on the 120GB disk and use the "old" 30gb for files. If you wan't to know the difference use a benchmark like hd-tach or sisoft sandra.

I have had a similar situation, but might be worth a check. I had a two computer two printers network. Both printers were connected to one computer one via lpt and one via usb. Both printer were shared. When the computer was turned on both printers started printing something that started with "MZ? " without the quotes. It took me a while to get it... Any ideas? MZ is the header for executables, but what exe file would print itself? A virus. That's it. Check for viruses. In my case it was a virus called bugbear. Hope it helps.

I have a similar situation here with a 20Gb WD. About half a year ago a few bad sectors apeared on the disk so I chose to do a low level format (write zeros to drive) but a few weeks ago when booting scandisk insisted to do a complete test of my drives including media surface and foun d bad sector (8kb). On this computer I run win98 with fat 32. I belive the drive is faulty so I'll back up more often and start looking for a replacement.

This works in xp, but I think it'll work in 2k too. in C:\WINDOWS\inf\sysoc.inf just remove the HIDE in the line of the stuff you want to remove EXAMPLE Pinball=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,pinball.inf,HIDE,7 Pinball=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,pinball.inf,,7 and it'll apear in the add/remove

Did you restart your comp after changing pagefile size?

In most games p4 would be better cos games don't use smp. Photoshop would be better on xeons but I don't think you could notice the difference. Don't forget to look at the price tag
