it helps if you tell us the brand of keyboard at least!!!

Reuel I think you should ask for more info before making a statement like that..... When you say your dvd rom does not read CD's? do you mean when your trying to boot from the cd? In that case go into your bios and change the boot order so that your dvd drive is first then reboot with the cd in it. also if you can provide more info then just that it won't boot then perhaps we can be more help.

Insufficient USB Bandwidth when trying to use SKYP
thatsteveguy replied to catlady's topic in Hardware
My first guess would be that you have USB 1.1 as opposed to USB 2. Right clic on My Computer (on the desktop) and choose Manage. from there clic on Device Manager and clic the little + sign next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers and see if you have a USB 2 enhanced host controller. if not then you either need to install drivers for USB 2 but you need to know what kind of motherboard you have and whether or not it supports 2.0. best place to check for that is with the manufacturer of the motherboard you have. Also don't run these devices from a usb hub make sure they are plugged directly into the usb ports on your computer. S -
you don't have to actually shut down the firewall (not recommended to shut it down) to disable SPI. Do as the poster mentioned above and look through the admin or tool settings and just disable SPI but leave the firewall itself active.

NP glad i could help.

Well sorry but I would have to say you have learned a lesson about buying a second hand card of e-bay,. your card is fried and I would not bother with it anymore. considering you can get that card for around 20 bucks brand new I don't know why you would have bothered buying one off e-bay. Also that card is really not the best and it was not that good even when it came out so you might want to look at getting something else. S

So did you try swapping your ram? you mention it was no help at all but did not mention if you tried any of the steps that error code may indicate. Also you Don't mention any system specs so trying to help is like a shot in the dark. if you have more then one stick of Ram take one out and try again and if it still fails then swap the sticks and try one more time. S
-
Most times that I have issues like this it is related to bad RAM, I see you only have 512 so taking out a stick is not an option unless you are using 2 x 256. if you are using two sticks take one out and try again. If you still get the issue then swap the sticks, otherwise if you have some spare RAM try that. I would try that before doing a whole MOBO swap and you can get some half decent RAM pretty cheap so try that first. S

what I have found on this The error 0xC0000005 is generated by an illegal "memory access violation". This can be caused by anything from faulty RAM, an incorrect/corrupt device driver, poorly written/updated software and more commonly under Windows XP Service pack 2, malware/adware installations. hope it helps

Create an account for you brother then that way he can't log into your account.

LOL, yeah I have been quite myself lately on here also. I could answer only so many SIMS 2 questions before getting burnt out! I tried the first beta build of Vista but am waiting for the final (as final as MS can make anything that is) release before commenting. but seeing as I have 3 computers at home I don't think Vista is something I am going to jump on right away. After all I'm not about to spend over $1,000 just for OS's! S

I Really Need Help! Problem Transfering File From Media!!! Please Help!!
thatsteveguy replied to Rock_Star's topic in Games
You may also have a memory problem. You will often get messages like that when your RAM is about to go. If you have two sticks take one out and try again. If You only have the one stick then try to borrow on and if you can't you MAY have to look at getting new ram. You could try running MEMTEST on your Ram to see if it's an issue however on more then occassion I have had memtest tell me the ram was okay when it was defective. S -
Can't Open Certain Files in Outlook Express...
thatsteveguy replied to Kurtz's topic in Customization & Tweaking
The solution is exactly what the message recomends you do?! open up explorer and go into tools>folder options>file types and associate that type of file with an application. I would recommend however for security reasons you don't run ANYTHING from within Outlook Express just save it, scan for viruses then use whatever application you normally use for playing/viewing those types of files. -
I highly recommend that you go to A T I site and download the latest catalyst driver for your card. Using the default windows driver is okay to get you into windows but it sucks for gaming. I am actually surprised you were able to play that long! lol the latest version is Catalyst 6.4 and that should help out. IF it keeps acting up after post back and we'll see what we can do to help. S PS: is there a way for me to disable the feature that keeps making my post damn advertising for companies that I do not know and have no desire to support!!!!!!!!!

Originally posted by Relic: Quote: I also use a NOCD exe, I refuse to keep the CD in the drive, so Steam obviously isn't all that concerned, because only one account exists for each CD key, only 1 copy of the game(per CD key) can be played at any given time. LOL Steam is not concerned because you don't need the cd in the drive to play. Actually your lucky that Steam's VAC has not noticed you using the no cd crack and ban your account which could happen if you go online to play (just fyi) also I only ever needed to enter the key the very first time I installed HL2. I downloaded the steam client at work and just run it, it installs all the files I need to play, enter my account info (no cd serial number req'd) and away I go I can play. you can install on more then one computer however your Steam account can only be run from one computer at a time. In other words you cannot have multiple log in's to Steam. So I cannot play at work if my steam account is active at home for example. S

My guess would be that yes you will have less trouble doing a network capture with an MPEG because it is compressed. An uncompressed AVI is alot of bandwith being sucked up. I'm not sure you can get around that but if I am wrong someone will let me know soon enough! lol S

Thoughts on ZoneAlarm's / ComputerAssociates's Anti Virus Engine?
thatsteveguy replied to shassouneh's topic in Security
and correct me if I am wrong but in a recent test of the major AV software AVG came in LAST for detection., this is why I avoid that one. personnaly I run Nortons AV and I am quite happy with it. it is not as much a resource hog as is implied especially when compared to Mcafee. S -
I have an external drive that is both firewire and usb2.0 and I can say that if you can get firewire go with that. USB is so friggin slow when it comes to these drives. I transfered 30gb the other day using the usb and it took close to 5 hours to move and the same amount of data moved in about 20 mins over the firewire port. If you have no choice go with usb2 but if you can go firewire instead. S

are they actually connected inside your computer? Ive seen this happen when the ports are there but they did not bother to connect them!! S
