  1. I didn't which forum my issue belonged under so I posted in both. I've done this before and usually the admin op monitoring would delete the appropriate thread that didn't belong.
  2. Morning all. I was just wondering if anyone knows of a simple http tag or asp script to launch the WMP to connect to my WME server? Thanks in advance as always.
  3. Sorry to have wasted everyone's time reading my thread. I didn't realize that mms://(SERVER IP):(PORT) would work as well. Thanks again all

    Windows Longhorn...

Sorry, I've been out of the loop for awhile concentrating on my HW+ issues but is it true that Microsoft is supposed to have a new OS around the corner code named "Longhorn?" If it is then what's the new features that will make anyone choose it over XP (which the final server version isn't even out for yet)? Thanks in advance either way.

    Windows Longhorn...

I've had Longhorn running now for couple of days and really like the GUI. I've tried porting over the Display Scheme to XP Pro but you don't get the same look. Oh well. I'll test out some games on it then call it night. Thanks guys.
  6. Morning all. I made a big mistake in activating my Windows Instant Messenger. I had to set it up temporarily for my wife while my test workstation was being formatted. Even though I took off all the options in preferences to remove all the start up and integration features it still signs me on (via .net passport) with my hotmail account whenever I start Outlook Express. Does anyone know how I can deactivate or at least wipe the .net account clean from it. Thanks all in advance.

    Deleting Windows instant messenger...

Thanks AdamvJackson. I will give it a try. Much appreciated Jerry Atrik for the warning. Shouldn't affect me as I am on SP3, soon to be SP4 Thanks again all.

    Deleting Windows instant messenger...

By the way, I'm well aware of the option in Outlook Express to uncheck the Windows Messenger sign in box but I would still like my .net account blown away. Even better, blow away Windows Messenger entirely safely from my OS. Thanks as always in advance.

    Thanks AdamvJackson for the info.

    Windows Longhorn...

I heard it's possible that the final may be pushed out in third quarter of 2003. Another rumour I heard was that the final Longhorn had been leaked out and was now in low circulation among some IRC's. Any validation to this? Thanks AdmiralLSD/Adamvjackson for the replies as always. Btw, your suggestions for slipstreaming XP SP1 solved my issues for my USB on my notebook and XP Office on my desktop. Many thanks. Virtual Java (the bean) to all you guys who responded
  11. Morning all. I've got a Firewire/USB external pocket drive which I constantly use with my Dell C800 Lattitude laptop. Unfortunately the USB connection part has been giving me problems, so I've had to rely on the IEEE1394 connection. The problem I have when I'm using the USB connection is that the drive constantly comes up with errors either from copying and pasting from it, pasting to it or even formatting it. I get an error telling me most of the time that "source drive is unavailable". It still appears under "My Computer" but has disappeared from "Disk Management" and the activity light on the drive is glowing red for "active" continuously. By the way my laptop is a dual boot OS with Win XP Pro and Win 2K Adv Srv. I have all the latest updates and service packs for both along with the latest BIOS and chipset revisions for my laptops mobo. It's not the drive as I'm able to use the USB connection on my desktops at work. Has anyone else run into this problem before? Thanks in advance either way as always.
  12. Thank you guys so much. Appreciate all the help and will look into making the slipstream cd. You may see an upcoming posting asking for help on it if I fail to follow instructions correctly Thanks again
  13. Morning guys/gals. As you can see from my previous post I've had (am still having) issues with my Hollywood Plus w/Office XP. I've noticed that SigmaDesigns have released a new card called their RealMagic XCard. Apparently it does everything of the old HW+ in addition it now plays MPEG-4 (Divx) and outputs it to your TV exactly the same way the HW+ did with DVD/VCD. Can anyone tell me if they have purchased one of these cards yet and have loaded it onto a Win2K OS platform with Office XP "fully" installed? I'd like to know if you had issues running XP Word simultaneously with the RealMagic. Thanks in advance either way.
  14. Morning all. I recently did a clean install of Win2K Pro. Prior to that I had WinME which for the most part ran quite well despite public opinion experiences. To say the least I had to load Win2K on for certain apps I needed that would only work with Win2K. I did the service pack 3 with all the accompanying updates. It was completely bare and then I installed Office XP Pro and it launched without error. I then loaded my drivers for my Hollywood. Then I load the Hollywood App (latest one). I launch it and it tells me that the device driver is in use. Lucky I made an image of the system at bare before any other software installs. So I reimaged and did the Hollywood first. I launched it without error and was able to play my Matrix DVD. I installed Office XP Pro and launched it without error. I then relaunched my Hollywood and got the error message again saying that the driver was in use. Now get this, I then go to my device manager and try to uninstall my Hollywood driver. It crashes the system as soon as I hit the uninstall. I reboot and then just try to disable the driver. System crashes as soon as I hit the disable. Can anyone tell me if they've encountered this problem and has a fix for it? I would really like to use my Office XP again with my Hollywood on one system but if I have to I will go back to using Office 2K instead. Oh by the way I have tried using the older versions of app and driver for my Hollywood and I get the same result. Thanks in advance either way as always.

Hollywood Plus conflict with my Office XP Pro...

I'm guessing they're putting all their R & D into the New RealMagic XCard. Does everything the HW+ did and also now includes MPEG-4 output (Divx). If that card works with Office XP I may upgrade and hand-me-down this card. We'll see Thanks
  16. SP1 for Win XP Pro and SP1 and SP2 for Office XP full install. Thanks
  17. My apologies if I've got this wrong. When Jerry Atrik was referring to to slipstream, I thought he meant the the express installation of SP1 for XP off of Windows Update not the streamed version off of the MSDN subscription. Hope that clarifies. Jerry Atrik, could you clarify if you were referring to MSDN or Windows Update. Thanks guys.
  18. Thanks Admiral LSD either way. Btw, SigmaDesigns is selling the XCard online straight from their site for $99 USD with remote included, which does ship to Canada. It explains why now that when I see the mom/pop shops loaded up with HW+ stock trying to sell them off for $45 CDN. Still waiting for response with anyone that has an XCard as of yet.
  19. I guess I'll have to try a fresh install with a slipstreamed install of XP SP1 from the Windows Update site. But, I'm not going to proceed with that at the moment as I have a lot of apps which I cringe at to reinstall. I'll just have to wait for my USB connection for my drive to become nuisance enough for me to do so. Until then I'll use my 1394 connection (100 times faster btw). Thanks again all.
  20. I believe it's the Silano desktop chipset. I think you're on the right track AdamvJackson. It was working before I installed Win2K SP3 and WinXP SP1. I have a feeling if I do a reinstall w/o SP's it will work again. But it's still this is still a dilemma as I find the security updates and patches necessary from the SP's. Jerry Atrik, were you able to get you USB for your drive working again after you did the reinstall with the SP. Please let me know. Thanks all.

    IBM 120GXP problem under win2000

Hollywood Plus conflict with my Office XP Pro...

I don't know what to say Admiral LSD. I'm just stating from my own experience of what happened and it is the ctfmon.exe file "for me" that kills my RealMagic Player. Admiral LSD, if you were able to get away with it and have your ctfmon.exe file working then my hat's off to you. For me, it's not the case as I have to kill the ctfmon.exe process in order to get my RealMagic Player working again. Stoffer, you were a great deal of help and thanks again for that link to the Microsoft article on dealing with removing ctfmon.exe. Thanks again all. PS. I got email response from SigmaDesigns today, "We are aware of the Microsoft Office XP issue with our software and are currently working diligently for the fix. In the meantime we ask that you please be patient and disable the ctfmon.exe file, as we stated in the 2.3 beta read me file, when you need to play your media until we do fix it with a new release. Thank you."

    IBM 120GXP problem under win2000

Yup heard that one too from our Dell rep. Stay away from IBM dirves period. I had major issues with Intergraph systems running their Ultrastar line. To say the least 23 of the 25 systems within 2 years, were replaced to the Quantum/Maxtor Atlas lines (which have been running great since). 8 of the systems drives were initially replaced within the first 2 months. I can't say it enough, STAY AWAY FROM IBM DRIVES. Although I don't know about their microdrives. JediBaron's right, trade for a new drive if you can. Seagate's and Fujitsu's are pretty solid and not much of a price difference.
  24. For Win 2K Adv. Srv. I had SP2 and for Win XP Pro. no service packs what so ever. When Service Pack 1 for XP came out I updated it and right after I updated my Win 2K as well. Then I noticed my USB/1394 drive would no longer work through USB. Thanks for the responses.
