  1. Yeah it can be done... but you might have to make them the same LAN. All you need are two access points in bridged mode connected to eachother using a directional antenna. I used a 14 dB gain directional antenna pointing at another about 250 meters apart, worked great until a tree started growing in the way and soaked up all the signal.

  2. I have a WinXP x64 computer with multiples shares on it, all my other computers are WinXP 32-bit. They used to be able to browse the shares on my computer just fine but I screwed something up in the Access Control section with TweakUI and I cant seem to fix it. If you know the name of the share, you can UNC to it just fine and access the share. I just want it easy for people to browse.

I've tried to set everything back to the way it was in the access control section in TweakUI but that has had no effect. I've checked a few basic registry things per Microsoft KB articles but that hasn't yielded me any positive results either.

Anyone got an idea of how to fix this? It's really annoying to have to set everyone up to each one of my shares.

  3. Hey guys... I've never actually setup a VPN before, I've always found other ways of connecting to other local network. But one of my clients who happens to be a small business is going to need their two networks to be connected, into one LAN if we can... One building has DSL right now, and the other one is getting it installed Monday (22-June-03) and they will want to be able to access the other buildings server and such.

So how do I setup a VPN connection between these two points? Each side has a Win2k server. And I want building A to be able to access the server on network B, and vice a versa.

What is the best way to do this? I would like both buildings to be using the same subnet mask, so I want them to be on the same network essentially.

I hope to hear from ya'll soon. Thx

  4. hmmm lol.. duh, i didnt tihnk about asking my ISP... i'd probably just have them change it since the damn thing was hard to remember anyway.

That software didnt work... I drag the cursor from the keys icon over the password box and nothing happens... no password shows. frown

Oh well I will just call my ISP. Thanks.

  5. Hi guys.... Let me start off by saying I know nothing about programming languages, or databases... I have a friend who is a web designer, does a lot of stuff in PHP and perl. Now I already have PHP installed and it works, with one of my other friends help some time ago. We are using mysql database server as well... But now my friend wants to use perl scripts too, but he doesnt know how to install them, and I don't either... He already has the scripts and stuff made, all we need is for the server to be able to process them.

So, i've installed Perl, but that is where i'm stuck. I have Apache 1.3 version installed on my Win2k server, and Mysql and php are installed, all working... So how do I get perl to work?

So is what I need is a simple, step-by-step guide to get this thing running so my designer can see his perl scripts are working...

I'm sorry, this is a newbie (n00b) question... But we all were n00bs once right?

    hhehe.... thanks guys!

  6. Thx but I couldn't find what I need at either of those sites. frown

And I don't buy from radioshack... all the stuff is low grade, low quality and I have never been happy with it... Like going to Schucks for a starter for my car... laugh

Anyways... I did something different, I think I found a way for this to work, but had to get different WAPs.

  7. ok... i'll rename the poll...

it wasn't really a test, lol. I just wanted to show my coding friend what I was looking for. We got it now on our forums. smile It rocks.

    http://forums.megabytemike.com

If anyone cares to look. smile We are starting a tech site in the next few weeks... so, if anyone can post in the tech forums to get things moving along that would be awesome.

  8. i'm just making this to show a friend, i will delete it in a few minutes... we are working on a forum... smile

edit: wtf... it didnt show the poll earlier,i thought it deleted it... so i readded it, now its back and has the old options back! arrghhh...

  9. I hope this doesn't upset the mod. The was the most appropiate forum I could find for this.

I want to advertise my new tech site I just started up. Right now it is really nothing, but in a few weeks it will be moving along.

I wanted to give everyone here the addy to my forums, I am hoping that maybe some people will come and start some threads and stuff... so I can get the forum active and alive.

    The addy is http://forums.megabytemike.com/

The tech site is named Digital Synapses Technologies, and is located at http://www.megabytemike.com and click on the Link for it.

I apologize if this upset the mods, you know how it is when you got something new, gotta share it with the world!!!

  10. Yeah.... i'm an idiot, lol... it was permissions I later discoverd.. Arghhh! Really annoying... but secure. I like it now, despite I am pissed...

I didn't like BPFTP too much... I am trying a new one, Titan FTP... I like it more, more options and stuff. SSH and all that crap. I know BP has some of it, but this has more options it seems.

I got it all sorted out. Thanks for responding.

  11. Arrghhh... I was using bullet proof FTP... was working fine, except NO ONE could (even me, with full access with FTP account) write / delete / overwrite / modify files. anywhere... So I switched to Serv-U 4.1

    Heres the deal with that...

I installed the software (I also tried version 3.x). When I begin the setup process and try to start the server, it just says "server offline" with the yellow icon. Serv-U 4.1 claims that it cannot connect to a bunch of ports. Like 6xxx, or 28xxx I remember... Then says it canot connect, server offline? Or something to that effect. Then, it says "server is online" in green, but i cannot connect to it.

What is the issue here? I don't think there are any other services using port 21. Something is wrong.

    Can anyone assist? Thank you.

  12. Well we got prob1 fixed... I went into the properties of "Contacts" and set the default form to the one she wanted... That worked. So now when she does "new contact"... it brings up the form she designed.

As for prob 2... we need to get all of her current contacts, approx. 220 contacts merged/transferred over to the new form design. Can this be done automatically? Or with some easy steps? Or will she have to re-enter every single contact into the new form?

  13. I will give that prog a try... thank you.

My configuration is quite simple, and typical. I don't see what you don't understand. Can you tell me what you dont understand? Perahaps I can explain that better. Anyway, the ISA box is supposed to handle the cache... As for the routing, can you explain? I'm a bit flaky on my routing knowledge.

I have had a LOT of trouble working with ISA server, for other clients, me, anyone... ISA server just seems to be a very problematic piece of software. I had it working, briefly and then it stopped again. I wasn't sure what I did. I believe it had something to do with the outgoing listeners configuration, so I tried to set it back, and back and forth between different configurations and could never get it to work again. I can't get on the internet with the server, or clients with ISA server. I'm probably just an idiot, or don't know what the hell I'm doing. But I've worked with ISA before in the past and had it working, but still had lots of problems with it then too. I don't know what the deal is but ISA server does not seem to agree with me at all.

Also, I could NEVER get FTP to work with this internet configuration because I cannot get a real-world IP address (internet IP) to the NIC. It always got a internal one from the router which has to use NAT to forward all requests to that NIC. As far as I know, it is impossible to get a real-world IP to that NIC unless I have a block of IPs from my ISP, which I do not, nor can we afford adding more IPs in. I'm assuming there is absolutly no way that we can get an internet IP to that NIC... some sort of bridging or, something. If there is and I dont know about it please let me know. Thanks.

  14. I am in need of a decent proxy server that has cache and can allow FTP and HTTP through my connection. Heres the setup:

A DSL modem/router connects to the internet, then the server, a win2k box (which must stay win2k, so dont say linux) with two NICs in it. One connects to the DSL modem/router, those use IPs 10.1.1.1 and 10.1.1.2 and a 24 bit subnet. Then the other NIC connects to the internal network switch using 10.0.0.1 and a 24 bit subnet. The problem is, the DSL connection only has ONE IP. And we cannot get another IP for the server... so that makes FTP really difficult to setup, especially with ISA server, which we are expierementing with, and frankly, getting screwed. So we need a proxy server that can do this with an internal IP.

The other thing is... we've been messing around, and are having trouble getting on the internet just from the server. We have to unplug the network NIC in order to get on... then we can plug it in and everything is fine. But for some reason, when both connections are plugged in, Windows can't find the internet, although its sitting right there on one of the NICs. How can we sort this out?

We are using NAT on the DSL modem/router. It forwards all data to the server. The Server is doing DHCP for the network, but not the internet part.

Hope this is enough info to get some help.

    Thanks!

  15. hey guys, i know there is some way to do this, or at least part of it. heres what I need, maybe someone knows a good way to do this.

i need a way to set a computer (likely with a program) to automatically shut down at a specific time, and then turn it self on at a specific time. a proper shut down in windows, or even better, a hibernate, if that can be done... this would help out a lot for a server of a client of mine.

    thanks!

  16. Hi again everyone, one of my clients who uses MS Outlook XP in Win2k has created a new contact form, however she is unable to make it default. I looked around and could not find a way to do this. Take a look at this e-mail she sent me, maybe you can tell me how to do it so I can tell her. Thanks.

Prob 1: Set the new template as the default when adding new records.

Currently I have to go pull down the Tools menu when in Contacts. Then go to Forms. Choose Form. Look in Outlook folder. And choose Test. After adding and saving a record, it immediately takes me to the old Template if I want to add another record. This is very inconvenient.

Prob 2: Merge the old files onto the new contact card system so that I don’t have to Re-enter all the information!

  17. I took a look, I can't seem too find a place to buy it or even download a demo... Maybe i'm not looking hard enough, but where is it?

I've been looking for days now for that program... I still can't find it.

The drive does not have any mechanical problems, I dont think. Just an area in the beginning if the drive abuot 7% in has a ton of damaged sectors. But I know exactly what sectors those are, so if I can skip thm that would work fine.
