  1. I'm not sure if this fits in the forum, but hopfully it does. Mods, if it doesn't, please move it... I understand I was a mod once my self. Heres my situation... I'm looking for a way to make my LCD screen on one of my laptops to display high resolutions in full screen. The screens native display is 1024x768... but I want it higher without having to "scroll" down the screen... Is this possible? Maybe with software? The function button on the laptop works for lower resolutions, in other words if say the screen is showing at 800X600 you can choose if you want the image stretched, or properly aligned with the pixels... Anyway if anyone knows of a way to do this that'd be great. Thanks! __________________

  3. Hi... I'm looking for a program that can convert video files into different files. For example I have a file that my ATI TV made into a .mp2 file, but I want to convert it to an AVI or MPG (MPEG 1) file. Does anyone know any programs that can do this easily? Thanks in advance for suggestions.

    Audigy to Six Channel AMP?

great... lol Now I think Winamp needs to have software build-in that will simulate 5.1 surround. Because I'm not getting any bass, and I had to use a splitter on the front channel to use for my sub. And the center is useless.... Oh well maybe I'll use the Creative crap. Thanks.

    Audigy to Six Channel AMP?

Hi tweaked, Sorry about the terrible english I was in a hurry and didn't really pay any attention to what I was typing... lol oh well. But this is the situation. I have Windows Multimedia settings for audio output of 5.1, the Audigy software is also set for 5.1 output. This is all being done analouge. My speakers (aiwa 5.1 surround sound system) has 5.1 inputs on the back. (6 total inputs for front left and right, rear left and right, center, and sub). All the wiring is correct. My MP3s are playing in the rear and front channels. However the center and sub do not appear to be working for MP3s. But in surround sound games the center does work and so does the sub. Is this normal? Apparently (I browsed Creative.coms FAQ) and MP3s are only processed in those channels and if you want the full 5.1 you need to use the Creative Player software and enable something like CMSS or something... that simulates the 5.1. I do not really care for the Creative program so does anyone know of any other mp3 players that can do this? I don't think Winamp can because I looked through 2.xx and 3. Anyway I just wanted to let you know what was going on this way so you can understand it. But maybe I should not be worried and I am just a picky bastard. Thanks for the help...

    Audigy to Six Channel AMP?

I was wondering... what type of stuff is in ACTUAL 5.1 surround sound beside DVDs? Because my MP3s play on the front and the rear channels but never the front. Is there anything else that has 5.1 surround? I have it but can't enjoy it. Regular audio CDs dont have it either as far as I can tell. What's the point of having a 5.1 surround system when very little is in 5.1 surround. I mean might as well get 2 extra speakers and run it off of the front channels... That is pretty much what is happening now I think. Any ideas?

1x Hub & 1x Switch Uplink... HOW to?

Ahh well that makes sense... I have a Cisco Catylist 24 port switch and its uplink is not shared then. Well it's not a big deal. At least I know now more about how that works.

1x Hub & 1x Switch Uplink... HOW to?

Its all a part of networking architecture... there are specific and logical ways to do things as I have/am learning in a Cisco networking class. The topology of a network is very important for performance and easy of administering that network. And of course... if you have an uplink port, don't waste it. On the subject of uplink ports, I don't know if it is just my switches or all... but it seems that when something is in a uplink port that the port right next to it does not function. For example, on one of my switches, a D-Link DSS5+ I have my DSL Router/Modem plugged into my switchs' uplink port via a crossover cable. But the 1x port does NOT work. I have to move everything over to 2x and beyond... I'm not sure exactly why it is but that wastes a perfectly good port and that is quite annoying to me. Does anyone else have this or know what the deal is?

1x Hub & 1x Switch Uplink... HOW to?

But he said "as far as wiring goes"... so he was referring to wiring, which is the same. However, you are correct the bandwidth sharing is far different. And on the uplink to regular port... I think that is supposed to be a straight through cable, but if connecting two switches or hubs; or a switch and a hub together without using an uplink port on either device I think you can use a cross-over cable. Not sure but I think you can.

    Audigy 2

Not really... I know theres a few extras and true 24-bit sound and all. But I am perfectly happy with my current Audigy. It sounds very good and I am happy with it. I see no reason to upgrade unless I actually had a problem with the current one which I dont.

    Audigy to Six Channel AMP?

I have the same setup with my Audigy and an aiwa stereo system. In terms of the left and right setup going from the SPDIF/Digital out on the Audigy to the Sub-in and Center-in on the amp, I dont think it matters... Because I tihnk both are a center channel or it is just mono and the sub-input on the AMP only plays the lows on the sub anyway. At least thats how it works on mine. Just thought I'd chime in I hope it helps.

    seconday video card... problems

Hi there, I am having some issues attempting to get a secondary video card to work in Windows XP. I have tried several video cards that I own. My only successful card was a Voodoo 3. But I'd prefer to keep that in my other machine for LAN parties. I have tried a few other (XP Compatible) video cards that I have and all of them will not work. I get a "Device cannot start" in the Device Manager. Yet the V3 will work... I'm not sure exactly what the problem is but if someone can help me out or point me to a video card they KNOW will work that'd be great. I have a GF2 MX AGP and refuse to take that out... (unless I upgrade to a card w/dual video out) but if I can I'd like to use existing cards that I have. All I want is to have my second monitor hooked up to watch TV on! I can do it with my V3 but as I mentioned earlier I'd like to keep that in my other machine for LAN parties. However I think my V3 may be causing problems cause sometimes my system will freeze when moving things across the screens when I use the V3. Thanks in advance for any assistance in this matter.

    seconday video card... problems

Hi. Thanks for responding. I have tried a ton of things, and all the ones suggested and could not get it to work. So I have decided to get a dual-head video card. Can anyone suggest a good, decent priced GF4 MX card? What about an ATI card? Anything better than the GF4 MX for near the same price or possibly cheaper. I should probably do some research on my own but have little time and I'd also like to get some opinions mixed as well. Thanks. BTW I just bought the new Logitech MX700 cordless optical mouse. And they were right! No more lag! Those older cordless opticals were LAGGED big time! This one however is great! Just like a corded one! And the rechargable batteries are a great addition! Thumbs up to Logitech for making yet another superior product.

    seconday video card... problems

Thanks for responding... Well right now it is in the last PCI slot (6). And i have tried I think all of them except 1 (its blocked by my big ass heatsink on my vid card). There are 3 PCI cards I am trying... One is ATi Rage or something, an S3 Savage, and the 3DFX V3. No NVidia cards, thats just my primary. My motherboard is Epox EP-8KTA3 as stated by my signature here, which uses the Via KT133A chipset I beleive. I believe the BIOS is up-to-date but I'll check again. WinXP Pro is not updated, nor will I update it. The lastest Via 4in1 drivers are installed (a few weeks ago). And video drivers are the native ones in WinXP. I can try some factory-based ones but I don't think that will fix it. My system is currently not overclocked. I have tried all the cards in the overclocked, and non-overclocked states, they all react the same. This is being done by the multiplier setting in the BIOS. And the voltage on the processor is 1.65 I beleive. The PCI clock speed is 33MHz and has not been changed. I have tried placing all the cards in all PCI slots except 2 and 1. 1 is blocked by the heatsink on my video card and 2 is dead. I will try a few of those updates and stuff to see if that helps. Thanks for you responses guys I think we will figure something out here... if I have to however, I will just use the V3. I guess I could take it out and put it back in my other system for LAN parties. A little extra work but I guess you gotta do what you gotta do. Thanks. lol BTW adamvjackson... I hear ya, I was up until 04:50 last night, and woke up at a lovely 13:30 hours. Great life isn't it?

    Nice upgrade!!!

Look'in good! I like it! More stylish.
  21. I have an Epox EP-8KTA3 motherboard. And I have the latest VIA 4in1 drivers installed and also the USB filter installed. For some reason, my hotsync on my palm will work for a while, then it won't work any more. When I connect my palm to hotsync with my computer, my computer chirps to say a USB device has been connected, then a few seconds later it chirps the disconnected USB sound. Then the palm says "The connection between your computer handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again." If I uninstall the palm software and reinstall it, it will work again. But only for about 10 hotsyncs or so +/- 3, then stop working agian. This is unnaceptable. Same thing goes with my pocketPC. When I put it in the USB cradle, it makes an attempt to connect, then fails. If I delete the membership from ActiveSync 3.5, then restart my computer, then try to sync again. It works, but I have to set all my settings back up. And it also only lasts about 8-11 syncs. This is also unacceptable. I think this issue is directly related to this motherboard, or chipset, as I have not had any problems with any other systems I have. Does anyone know how to fix this problem, or has any suggestions? I would really appreciate it as this is annoying the crap out of me. Thanks.

    Geforce 4 mx 440

Well I think something may be screwed up. What, I don't know... But DosFreak is right... you wasted yer money. These cards are just a bit faster than the GF2MX, you shoulda got a GF3 Ti, or even a GF4 4200 or something, they are down to about $180 or so somewhere I saw.

    W2000 on a Pentium 200

Yeah... as long as you upgrade the RAM, you should be fine. I have it installed on a P100 with 256MB RAM, slow as hell but works fine. Cheers
