  1. Can anyone please offer some advice. What does it do and why is it running twice. Taking up over 10,000K of memory. I have recently installed SP2, did not notice it before that.

    DirectX 8.1b, Bad!

Why did you install DirectX 8.1b, were you having problems with the previous version. DirectX 9 will be next version worth upgrading to.

    Colin McRae in Win2k

I have Colin Mcrae 2 installed on Windows 2000 and it works perfect, no problems at all. No tweaks just all the Windows Update files and CMR 2 patch.

    Don't download XBOX Emulators!

Besides I thought that Xbox CD's only worked on the Xbox CD.

Wanna download all of Internet Explorer 5.5 SP1?

Is there a similar way to download only IE 5.1 SP2, or is it no longer available for download.

    Homeworld Issue

Forget about other games, as I said before HOMEWORLD DOES NOT SUPPORT OPENGL WHEN RUNNING IN WINDOWS 2000, only Win98.

    Homeworld Issue

As far as OpenGL is concerned, the option is not available when playing in Win2K. FOR THOSE IDIOTS WHO DO NOT REALISE THAT THIS THREAD IS ABOUT HOMEWORLD, THE ABOVE MESSAGE ONLY APPLIES TO HOMEWORLD WHEN RUNNING IN WIN2K. OTHER GAMES DO SUPPORT OPENGL IN WIN2K. HOMEWORLD DOES NOT.
  10. It used to be running on my system after bootup, but after UltraHLE crashed on me today, I had to soft reboot and now it is not loaded. Strange. Any ideas.
  11. The funny thing is that before UltraHLE crashed using 3dfx, the process rundll32.exe stayed running and could be viewed in the Task Manager/Processes. I opened up the 3dfx Display Properties and closed them again. Now rundll32.exe stays running again after Startup, just as it used to before and I am now back to normal. I am not sure if rundll32.exe is needed after it runs "3dfxv2ps.dll" on startup but at least I know where I am now.
  12. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] "Synchronization Manager"="mobsync.exe /logon" "RegShave"="C:\\Progra~1\\REGSHAVE\\REGSHAVE.EXE /autorun" "Voodoo2"="rundll32.exe 3dfxv2ps.dll,UpdateRegSettings" I found the following in the registry. I have 2 Voodoo2's installed. UltraHLE uses Glide to emulate the N64.

Win2k SP2 and Win File Protect

It cannot be disabled in SP2, goodjob as well. There are too many idiots around who mess about with Win2K and then moan about Microsoft with their OS packs up.

Please help me solve this problem!

Intel rules. Amd may be cheap, but nothing comes close to the compatibility of Intel.

svhost.exe - running twice in Task Manager.?

Thanks, maybe it was listed twice before I installed SP2, I did not notice it. One takes up 3,200K and the second 7,200K, a lot of memory.
  17. The registry tweak is not to actually enable or disable the L2 cache of the CPU. It is simply a way of telling Win2K the size of the L2 cache on your system so it can optimize for it. Otherwise, by default, Win2K might not use the correct cache size each time it loads.
  18. I have 192MB ram and have set my pagefile in Win2K to 320MB (min and max). The query is when I run Sisoft Sandra and DxDiag (System) they both show the pagefile as being 493MB?, giving me a total of 685MB. Strange. The pagefile is 320MB in size on the HD. Can anyone help.

    Win2K pagefile setup qeuestion.

Everything works fine. The strange thing is that the DirectX Diagnostic Tool also shows the pagefile as being 493MB. The main thing is that the pagefile is 320MB on the actual HD so I will leave it as it is.
  20. I have four dial-up connections setup on my system. When I today tried to connect to one of them I recieved an error "Invalid User name and password", this happens when this particular ISP is busy and I have to click on Connect again. This is the first time it has happened to me. The problem is that now all the passwords for my dial-up connections have changed to 16 digit ones (not sure what it is). I can connect to either ISP I have setup by deleting the new password and typing in the correct one. Each time I try and dial up again though the password has changed back to the 16 digit one, for all ISP's, even after retyping in the correct password, the "remember password" box is ticked. I even deleted all my dial-up connections and set them up again using "make new connection" with the proper passwords, but when I recheck them, the 16 digit password is back agin. For now I have unticked the "remember password" on all my connections and type in manually when I want to connect. I am stumped. I have had the error "Invalid user name and password" whilst in Win98 and everything has stayed fine. Can anyone help. [This message has been edited by Asghar (edited 12 April 2001).]

    Win2K Dial-Up password problem - help needed.

Yes, your right. I tried logging on with the DUN password showing longer than it really is, and it worked. The password stored was correct. Nice security feature, makes it difficult to guess the password. Many thanks for the reply's.
