  1. Ok here is a new pic of my P4 setup..! I wanted my PC on my desk but couldnt find anywhere for my amp, then i relised that it was perfect size to fit in place of a draw at the end of january i hope to be putting in a side window and a nice neon or cathode light.

Sound Enthusiasts will like this one!

Sound is an aspect i love , thats why i have a full size Eltax Subwoofer under my desk with a dedicated amp for only the PC. Provides so much sound i cant hear myself at its 1/3 sound level and at full bass my wardrobe doors at the otherside of my room rattle very badly 8) However i have never found creative, etc PC speakers (5.1 Sets) to be good value, my amp and 5.1 set came to £200 and i have a lot better sound than than those speakers can achieve and its cost me around the same price

IBM to help AMD make new CPU's in future!

It is probably going to be an excellent move for providing new technology into the CPU's, the only thing that is maybe a concern is that IBM may end up owning AMD. wether or not this will be a bad thing who knows? Anyway AMD are doing well and if they introduce new AMD only technology's into their processors (3DNow+ for instance) then this will certainly help boost sales of AMD processors. Intel have been ruling for a little too long on speed and reliability.
  4. I just bought a tricolour cathode light from ebuyer info here 8) , didnt even know you could get such a thing, looks very nice

Got a photo of your setup? Let's see it here...

I just ordered a tri colour cathode kit (red, green and blue 8) ) and a window kit so i will post more pics as soon as i get that. sorted

    ftp on RP114 Netgear Router

Its ok now, i found that somehow the internet IP address was wrong even though it was previously correct, i dont know if maybe my IP changes at any time but it should not.

Ok when i set it to use the port 21 as u said asnd also port 20, after about 10- 20 mins the router cuts the internet connection, i am puzzled why it does this?

What is the hole in the P4 CPU?

Just wondering what the hole in the corner of the CPU is for?
  13. Iv got 2 of the 80GB big brothers strapped to my raid card on Raid Striping 0, max speed i recorded with a test program was 73MB/sec, which is amazing compared to my 80GB IBM which gives max at 52MB/sec. I was completely 8) shocked at the difference in speed

A great buy, now that they have released them...

Quote: Quote: My IBM hdd is running alone on IDE channel 2 of the controller so i dont know if it will make any difference in speed to it being with another 1 of its brothers on the same channel Sometimes, I have heard that IDE channel #2 is slower than IDE channel #1, but I think that is a rarity really, at least the last few years now (like last 4-5 years now). I think that your WD disks gave a HECK of a show really, nearly doubling your lone wolf IBM disk there (but, you had those WD SE/JB Caviars with 8mb caches on them acting as a RAID 0 array stripe, correct?). (I can see them beating it alone, but the margin you are showing of nearly doubling the throughput of that lone IBM, makes sense that WD's new 8mb buffered series disks work well in RAID 0 & DO increase their speed acting pooled like that!) * What I meant was at some reviews of WD's new JB/SE caviar 8mb series said they did not seem to aid speed in RAID 0 setups... your test I would wager shows diff. from its results & the tests I am referring to, iirc, came from around the time of the 100mb SE/JB 8mb series of 8mb onboard cache carrying WD disks! APK Yes the WD's are in RAID 0 Array, i havent tested them or used them at all on the motherboard alone but i may do so sometime and see how they perform.

I was completely 8) shocked at the difference in speed Hey, that's great... especially in RAID 0 stripe array! Why do I say that? Well... I read up at www.storagereview.com about how the new JB/SE Caviar series with 8mb buffer on them (40/60/80/100/120/200 SATA) types were not doing better in RAID 0 array stripes than they did standalone operating independently! Yet your results disprove it apparently, because IBM disks are NOT pokes & tend to run pretty close to WD of any type, including the SE/JB 8mb buffered series... not REAL close, but closer than your results show! (And, That makes sense... if you think about it.) * That could just be a matter of possibly storagereview's testing software's data sets read/written/copy/move during the test... e.g.-> Their testing software's NOT using over a 24mb dataset size & never leaves their pooled onboard cache (assuming the RAID 0 controller firmware pools it, & I'd wager it would) & thus, a single disk might show testing as well as the same type of disk in a 2-4 disk logical RAID 0 logical disk entity under a test). (I would figure that 3 of those drives with 24mb of onboard cache between them would show as doing great, & better than most disks would, and better working together as one logical disk unit under a RAID 0 array stripe! StorageReview's tests did not show that, & personally I suspect it's just the testing software's methodology & datasets used...) APK P.S.=> Anyhow: They're a GREAT buy at the 80gb size @ $80 U.S. Dollars or so... I am guessing this 40gb size would run $60 TOPS, if not less at $50 U.S. Dollars, or so... Personally though? One day, I'd like to return to the UltraScSi-III world, but in UltraScSi-160 next round & snag a pair of Seagate Cheetah's pushing 15,000rpm & 3.6ms seek times... NOW THAT IS FAST! Costly, but fast... next choice'd be Maxtor/Quantum Atlas 10k III units! apk My IBM hdd is running alone on IDE channel 2 of the controller so i dont know if it will make any difference in speed to it being with another 1 of its brothers on the same channel

What is the hole in the P4 CPU?

OK Guyz here is the e-mail from Intel, Wait for it .....! ------------------------------- Hello, Thank you for contacting Intel® Technical Support. Regarding your question of why there is a hole in the corner of the processor. The function of the hole is to release pressure during the manufacturing process so that a sealed pocket of air is not left under the integrated heat spreader. Please contact me again if I can be of further assistance. Best Regards, Naomi R. Intel Customer Support -------------------------------- Well there you are!

    CPU & System Temperatures ?

Quote: Quote: my P4 idles about 27C - 35C, 27C being lowest iv seen from my Asus iPanel. when playing UT for about 10mins it rockets to about 49C, which isnt to bad since its overclocked to 2.85 from 2.53 I have the same case/ MB / CPU combo as you. The low temprature is 31-35C, but the high only hits about 40C. I have a Swiftech MCX4000 cooler which I think makes the difference, and, I'm wondering what you're using. That's an amazing board. I had this thing clocking 3.04GHz stable and cool (45C), but, I want it to last a while, so, I backed it down. 2.85 seems to be a prudent compromise. Originally i was gonna go for the P4B533-E which gave 266DDR and onboard raid which was £125, but this board gave me 333DDR, no raid but this board was £77 and a simple raid card is only £15. Quite a price difference between them. Anyway im using this cooler Coolermaster IHC-L71 with Antec Silver thermal compound At this second my mobo temp is 31C and my CPU is 31C aswell which to me is a brilliant temperature after being used to AMD CPU's. I would love to see how it would cool with a Volcano 9+ on it or something

    CPU & System Temperatures ?

Quote: Quote: Guys, Just a quick question - was getting worried that my computer was running a bit hot so slapped on a bigger fan. My current readings are: CPU: 58.5 C System: 32 C Is this OK for a Athlon 2100+ / Ti4600 ? Cheers, P I have an Athlon XP 2100+ and a Ti4200 on an Asus A7V333 MB, with an Akasa Silver Mountain 2 HSF w/Delta 60MM 38CFM fan, with Arctic Silver 3 in between, all in an Antec 1080AMG case with all fans installed (5: 3 intake, 2 exhaust. Still surprisingly quiet.). The CPU runs at about 50-51 C when idle, and 52-53 C while loaded. Motherboard temp is steady at 28 C whether loaded or not. Temp readings taken with Asus PC Probe, which draws readings straight from the BIOS. The XP 2100+ has a pretty high wattage draw since it's the last of the Palomino cores, and a corresponding higher temperature. Looking back, I wish I'd spent the extra $50-60 and got a 2200+ Thoroughbred, but I've got no complaints about performance. I've literally run Dungeon Siege all day long with no glitches, so I think the system is pretty stable. The 2200+ maybe the first thoroughbred but apparently it still has temperatures like the 2100+ and that the 2400+ is the one with better temps Also my system temp is bad, usually only about 7C below the cpu on load and about 2C above the CPU at idle but i have only got a heatsink on and to be honest i cudnt care about heat on the system coz its 1 of the lowest priced components in my system.

What is the hole in the P4 CPU?

I looked through Intel's FAQ,etc and nothing there about it. So i sent an e-mail. Has nobody asked this Q before, if not thats very suprising. If it is for the robot to handle the CPU then i am wondeirng how AMD manufacture theres?

What is the hole in the P4 CPU?

Quote: Quote: Just wondering what the hole in the corner of the CPU is for? That's where the "pre-installed Gremlin" can get in & out of it... * APK P.S.=> NO idea actually, good question! No 'technical documentation' on it @ Intel? That is a "StRaNgE" ² sounding CPU design & I'd ask that question myself if I had that model of CPU here myself... apk Must be a small gremlin , maybe santa claus drops down it or summin? Well i may send an e-mail to Intel if no one knows

Just bought a Radeon 9700 Pro....

Quote: I know my 3Dmarks should be higher. I dont know why it isn't.... . I have a decent motherboard and am running XP Home. Maybe its like I said above......I just have a piece of $hit!!. P.S..........typo below... 3. My original score was using a P4 2.26 Ghz. I now have a 2.53 that I got a few days ago. My benchmark has now gone to 13,429 3Dmarks with DX9 installed plus the Catalyst 3.0 drivers. Should have been 12,429 I wasnt dissing your system as you have pritty much the same system as i have, but you should be getting better scores. I would look into it, you should be over 13,000 really.
