  1. You can disable that option in norton. I have norton systemworls 2002, and i found an option to disable the tray maging thing, and all my icons came back. I'll check it out right after i get home and i'll post back.

  2. Last tuime you helped met out with my filesharing problem by telling me to use "authenticated users" instead of "everyone". But now i made another user on my client-xp box, and he doesn't have access to the drive i shared on the server. i'm gonna try to explain what i'd want to achieve (i search the whole net for info about filesharing, but nowhere could i find the info i need. I've been configuring this way too much with trial and error, hoping it would work, and sometimes did, but now i would really like to understand what i do, so i can reproduce it at a later time):

I got a servercomputer running xp pro on which i would like to share a drive for 1 user logging into the client computer.

How do i have to configure the permissions on the servercomputer to allow access to only that specific username? (adding users to the perfmissions is waaay weird, it was a lot easier in windows NT 4

    ,or is it just me?).

The network is configured the right way, both computers can see (ping) eachother, and the printer on the serverxcomputer is shared fine. I just can't get drives and folders shared to specific users (i don't want to use "everyone" and the "authenticated users" option doesn't work anymore)

I hope you can help. Thanks.

  3. I installed the new final powertoys and messed with the shortcut arrow option in tweakUI. I put it on "None" and since then my icons are only shown in 16 colors!! it's ugly!!!! I can't get it back to 16bits. Can anyone help???

The weird thging is, when i put my desktop in 24 bits colors the icons look normal (but i can't put it in 24 cuz my tv-card doesn't work then).

    Btw i'm using a SIS 8 MB pci videocrad (i'm waiting for a geforce 3 ti200)

  4. I got 2 computers in a small network, both are running windows xp. Simple file sharing is ticked off on both machines.

on each machine there is a harddrive that is shared, default is "everyone" has acces, and i leave it that way. The problem is, when trying to acces the drive from the other machine i'm asked for a login/password, and sometimes i just don't have access at all.

Can someone give me a step by step explanation to make drives completely accessible (file can be deleted/made/moved/blabla on the network, without having to give a login and pass?

I tried enabling guest acces, which solves my problem, but then it seems i can't copy some files from the network drive to my computer (i'm just not allowed).

    Thanks

  5. I'm looking for a NAT solution for winxp. Both computers on my net work are running windows xp.

In the past i used sygate 4.1 which i liked very much, but it seems the new winxp compatible version 4.2 doesn't like IE... I can do anything (msn messenger, audiogalaxy, imesh,...) but i can't surf the web. IE allways gives an error.

Is there any other software available ou there?

    I tried socks proxy's but i don't like 'em...

The built in NAT of winxp i crap too, i can't access some sites and audiogalaxy doesn't work.

    Can anyoine help?

    thanks

  6. I'm not using the built in windows FTP, i'm using serv-u. It was working fine when i was using windows ICS. But the problem with ICS is it doesn't let me access my college's intranet (it's a https address). With the socks proxy it works fine, but then i got that problem with FTP. I wish the new build of sygat worked. When using win2k and sygate 4.1 everything worked great. But now in their 4.2 xp compatible built IE doesn't work at all, all the rest works, icq, msn messenger, audiogalaxy, everything, just not IE. I don't understand... Othe people seem to have that problem alos, so it must be a bug.

I've looked everywhere for nat servers: winroute, winproxy,... none are winxp compatible, they give a nice little BSOD after reboot.

I guess i'll have to be patient...

I tried your 4 tips, but none of them helped.

    Thanks anyway for replying.

  7. As there is no working NAT solution out there for winxp yet i made a network suing spoonproxy on the server computer and hummingbird socks on the client.

The problem is my ftp server doesn't work right now (it's running on the client). Users can login to the server but are unable to retrieve a list of the files. Can anyone help me with this?

Anyone familiar with these programs i'm using?

I'fv tried sygate 4.2 (as i was using 4.1 before switching to winxp), but internet explorer doesn't work with it.
