    Dedicated server requirements

well, if you won't get 2, then u can only play 1 game at once, likely without probs. UT and Quake, u could prob get away with, older games, not such resources hogs. SOF2 / MOH - u will need at least 2 cpu's for 15 people in each.or there will be serious lag u could try a P4 2.4, and at least a 1g of mem, get a scsi HD, or the new western 15,000 36g rpm drives, and go from there. Just MO.

medal of honor, problem with dial up

medal of honour is a bandwidht hog, u won't play well on dial up, i got a 56k here(connect at 50 - 53kbps,a dn can download as fast as 7KB, good service here), i was in a t1 serevr with 2 others, and i lagged, it is broadband kind of game, IMO., same with jedi Knight II. Yet i can play DFLW with 10 players on a cable server, and not lag at all. try up[censored] your modem drivers, or get connected to the Inet befoer starting the game....

    New system, what to get?

heer are some good reviwes for new Hard drives out...... Fujitsu has set high goals for itself: back in January, we tested a 10,000 rpm drive (MAN3367MP) that impressed with its performance and acceptable noise level. Now, Fujitsu has upped the stakes once more - the MAM series at 15,000 rpm is supposed to conquer the high-end sector. Just one word in advance: Fujitsu is a master of its trade. http://www6.tomshardware.com/storage/02q2/020415/index.html [/list:u] Western Digital demonstrates what can be done with top-notch IDE drives: The WD1200JB arms itself with an 8 MB cache to beat off its competitors and make its way towards SCSI performance - all of this at an acceptable price, of course. What can we expect from this mega-drive? http://www6.tomshardware.com/storage/02q1/020305/index.html [/list:u] i hope it is okay to post those links Enjoy I am grabbing a 120 / 8mb cache drive my self this week.

New (?) LiveWare 3 for WinXP

Creative is no longer offering any of this for download on their site, what BS!! you have top get it or order it on cd, and pay for shipping, i already spent $250 + on your hardware, now u want me to pay for more support BS! and they say this is better for us. i will just find the free download links for play center 2.5 / 3.0 (15mb or so in size) and get the free driver files form creative.

My C Drive Partition is running out of room

Also, u can turn off System Restore, Cut down the VM, when i do a fresh installl of XP, i have a 4.5g part. for it XP sets my VM to 900mb - 1500mb, and i only got 512 in my sys, so this can be cut down, and or moved to another drive, which makes it faster anyways. POwequest i do not trust twice on win 2k i was doing as you wanted, moving space to another drive. Both times it frooze on me and i lost over 40+g of info. was not happy, and will never use it again.

    icq2002b

I don't trust either a few people i know with either / or , have had their accounts hacked, and their names taken, this i heard is largely due to ICQ now keeping your lists on their servers. I will stick with 2000b and even 2000b on certain games will mess with the pic, and u can sort of see a message come up, in single mode or double. Just minimize ICQ to the tray, does it for me.

Windows XP taking over my pc

Quote: The best way, I think, is to unplug 2 hd's, then install XP on the 3rd one as a standalone installation. Then, after you plugged your 2 Win2k hd's back, if your mobo's bios allows it, you can specify which hd will boot. Don't forget to have all hd's formated the same way NTFS or FAT32 (NTFS is better, we all know this !) so as you can access Win2k files from within XP and reversely. I did this myself before I finally turned my back on Win2k as XP fully satisfies me up to know (not to mention that I'd like it to be a lot more than it is already...) So, go for it, there's no risk as far as I know ! Only bad thing is then u have to go into your bios every time you want to boot to a diff O/S, just do as above, and u are prompted by a start up menu as to what O/S you want, that is the proper way, or ias i haev bene told As for the linux issue, 7.2 has a sweet setup when u use its boot manager, simple and easy, been dualing with redhat 7.2 and XP for about 3 months now, with no issues.

    ATI Radeon 8500

Yes the new 128's sound nice, supposed to be out in March, but the G4 on the reviews i read for both, seems to have a fair amount more power then the 128 ATI's will have. I want to wait too see how long till they make a 128mb all in wonder, from the email i sent to ATI, they did not seem as thoughit would be any time soon, i mean ATI has spit out like 5 diff cards over the last few months, getting to be a bit ridiculous. And the new Gefore all in wonder cards seem to be a joke from the reviews..lol

    AUDIGY Retail Drivers Needed

Yes, creative customer service is crap now, they say that for a LOW price they can send you the software on CD, and you will no longer be able to download software from their site. they say this will help customers? HOW!! anyways, i would say hit a local computer store, ask if they got a cd around, they can copy or u can borrow., or maybe buy a copy for like a few bucks?

Quote: Use TweakUI 2.0 for windows XP to change back to win2k search mode: http://217.8.136.112/root/Tweak_UI/ (its in Explorer and at the very bottom) oh and btw dont forget to report back to microsoft that the search dog gotto go, at least so they dont add garbage like that in future windows products. http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp or instead of installing 3rd party software, just right click on him and turn him off
  19. Hello, Our company is in need of some GOOD!! firewall software, as well as ftp software. I know all about norton and McAfee and such, and BPFTP /CUTE and all that, but i see them as home user software, and would prefer something more *professional*. (and i have the norton / g6/bpftp already) What i am looking for is *more* industrial type of stuff. But nothing that is next to impossible to install. All input is appreciated!

Quote: That's the one thing I didn't try.. non-overclocking. I heard that Windows XP is picky about it, but I know another guy on this board who has his PIII chip overclocked a lot further than mine with no problems. I do plan on giving it another try after the first service pack comes out... which I hear is the end of January. I recently bought a used P4 1.3. i had my PIII 533 @640 and no probs. This P4 1.3 on a Asus P4S333 mobo rules, with pc2100, i had it at 1.7 with the retail fan on, and only a few degree's temp went up, and XP had no probs with it all all, did all the regular testing and such, and Xp did not once complain.

List the problems you have had with XP :) :)

Quote: I too had problems with the Detonator drivers under WinXP. In fact all of the Detonator XP drivers caused problems of some description from BSOD's to random crashes. I was using the 12.41 Win2k drivers for ages until the latest 23.11 drivers were released. The 23.11's are excellent, stable, fast and I haven't had a single BSOD or unexpected crash since installing them. I have always been very critical of NVidia's driver efforts, they tend to sacrafice stability and image quality for performance and benchmark scores, however the 23.11's are a great package. Why did u just use the ones included with XP? I have a TNT2 32mb card, and have had the latest Det drivers with not ONE problem, as well as the o/c reg hack, and i have my vid o/c'd as well, still no probs. Perhaps it is an IRQ issue or something? I can't say i have had any probs with XP yet. Except security permissions in IIS!!! that is why i got 2k back in, but with in an hour of having win 2k pro back in, i BSOD it 7 times.!!! soon back to XP!,.
  22. Ditch norton. In win 2k, i had to reinstall cause it deleted files it said i did not need, then BAM reboot, won't start up, THNX NORTON!!! i only use AntiV and speed disk, but even that is rare. Xp, and MS built in stuff does me just fine.
  23. Quote: What i really need is cd burners fix lol, this fix is like 300kb...even on 56k, what is 2 mins of waiting..lol i was on 56k, when SP2 for 2k came out, now that is complaining!!!

    Cannot install ATI MMC 7.2

I would say be sure to do a search for anything ati*, also, look under your c drive for a folder labeled ati something.. I have the ati all in wonder 128, not the pro, and it worked, HOWEVER, the T.V tuner i beleive is not supported under XP. BUT if you use the windows 2000 drivers, and such it works fine, but you may have distored sound now and then.
